Hannah Waddingham, known for starring in shows like Game of Thrones and Sex Education, is set to star alongside Emily Blunt and Ryan Gosling in the upcoming action comedy film The Fall Guy. The movie has been described as a homage to the stunt performers in the film industry. The lead actor of the film, Gosling, has shared that he too tackled some of the action sequences himself.
And the concept also seemed to have inspired Waddingham, as she revealed in a recent interview that she was determined to perform her own stunts in the film but ended up injuring herself in the process.
Hannah Waddingham Insisted on Doing Her Stunt For The Fall Guy
During a recent appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, actress Hannah Waddingham opened up about performing her own stunt in the upcoming film The Fall Guy. When asked about her participation in honoring stunt performers, she shared that although she was not supposed to, she did manage to land a few punches in the film.
“But it was lovely because they kept extending and broadening my part,” she said, as she explained that she could not reveal much about it. However, the Emmy-winning actress hinted at a fight sequence involving her and another actor in the final 15 to 20 minutes of the movie.
Waddingham admitted her dissatisfaction with not being able to perform her part of the action sequence and expressed her wish to do it herself. Her determination led to her sustaining injuries during the filming process, which she proudly referred to as her “badge of honor.”
“I was complaining that just because I’m a girl doesn’t mean I can’t get involved with the shizzle. So I was like. ‘I would like to punch him, please—So, I really smacked it to him and see all these scars here. I have wounds. The Fall Guy scars.”
Starring Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, The Fall Guy follows a stuntman, Colt Seavers, who is embroiled in a mystery surrounding a missing Hollywood star after he starts working on his ex’s film. Hannah Waddingham is taking on the role of an executive producer in the film.
Emily Blunt Has High Hopes For The Fall Guy Sequels
In an interview with Total Film, actress Emily Blunt discussed the future of the upcoming action comedy, The Fall Guy. She expressed a strong desire to continue the journey with the characters from the film for multiple installments.
“I know I want to go on a journey with these characters for multiple films,” she said before adding, “I want Lethal Weapon numbers.” Although Blunt expressed her enthusiasm for potential sequels, she also acknowledged that such decisions ultimately rest on the audience’s reaction to the movie. “I hope people want more,” she said.
Premiering at SXSW 2024, The Fall Guy has garnered a positive response from critics, who have hailed it as a “fun-filled, fun-loving love letter to the undervalued stunt performance.” Director David Leitch and the cast’s performances have been particularly praised in the film.
The Fall Guy is set to be released on May 3, 2024.
