Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves have been the talk of the town ever since their 1994 film, Speed premiered and crashed its way into our lives. The memorable pairing that resulted in a life-long battle of will-they-won’t-they when it comes to the two leading stars was not just a result of the mass fascination among the fans – the subjects themselves have long dwelled upon the notion of a potential relationship.

Sandra Bullock Wants an RV Speed Movie With Reeves at 75

In the aftermath of the 1994 hit, Speed, it was obvious when the industry pitched a sequel to follow up the already unusual plot with a repetition of the same event happening to the same two people in a different geographical setting. Keanu Reeves understood that and refused to come back for Speed 2, a smart move considering how the film was about a cruise liner – which, even if it tried, couldn’t do justice to the film’s title.

So when considering a comeback with Keanu Reeves for a third Speed film, Sandra Bullock suggests an even more ridiculous idea than the already horrific Speed 2.

“I would love nothing more than to do a comedy with Keanu before we die. Just laugh with him. He’s funny. We can be seventy-five — it’ll be even better then, like an old-people Cocoon thing. We play two funny old people. A road trip. Just put us in an RV as old people. It’ll be the bookend of Speed! We’ll just be driving really slowly. Pissing the world off. There’s our movie.”

Earlier, the Ocean’s 8 actress had also joked about doing Speed 3 if it was directed by her Lost City co-star, Daniel Radcliffe. The latter, for his part, was quite seriously considering a threequel, equipped with a fully-formed idea of a plot as well as a title – Speed 3: Horsepower.

Sandra Bullock Considers a Future With Keanu Reeves

For the Speed co-stars, love has never come easy. Life had taken violent and cruel routes to steer them away from those they imagined spending the rest of their lives with. For Bullock, it ended in infidelity on her husband’s part. For Reeves, it ended with his partner’s death. But both still hold a candle to the memories of their time spent with each other, often recounting in throes of nostalgia if they could have survived a relationship together.

But Sandra Bullock insists that they are better off as friends –

“We just get to grow up together on parallel roads and tip our hats and meet for a dinner and try to work together. And the longer time goes on, the more in awe I am of the human being. Would I have been able to say that if he had dumped me and made me angry? Probably not.”

As succinctly put by the Bird Box actress, perhaps the world better likes them as friends than as romantic partners and their platonic relationship did give fodder to the mass imagination which enjoys the masochism of lovers separated by circumstance rather than the humdrum of a settled and routine life.

Speed is now available for streaming on Hulu.
