Hugh Jackman has become a legend when it comes to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Having starred in the role of Wolverine for over two decades, he has helped lay the foundations for the empire that the MCU has built. Though many thought that Logan would be the end of his time as a superhero, we would eventually learn that the actor was not ready to put down his claws.
Now that Jackman will be a part of Deadpool & Wolverine, fans could not be more excited about finally seeing his character interact with Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool. However, an older interview would show that there is another character that the actor wanted to fight with on screen.
Hugh Jackman Wanted A Crossover
In 2013, Hugh Jackman gave an interview with ScreenRant where he talked about Wolverine and his role in the grander, MCU. During that time, the Fox Marvel Cinematic Universe and the main MCU were completely different entries, existing in separate universes. During the interview, he talked about potentially mixing these two franchises.
” I don’t know what’s happening behind the scenes, but I think it’s fantastic. I actually just asked the other day, I said, ‘I don’t know what the legal situation is, but why don’t these companies come together? Why isn’t it possible?'” said Jackman.
He stated that he has asked some people about the legal situation, understanding that something this grand, would not be easy to execute and would have a lot of legal red tape. He mentioned that he did not care about all of this, and simply wanted to see the X-Men’s world collide with the Avengers’.
Hugh Jackman Wanted A Battle Between Wolverine and Iron Man
On top of desperately wanting a crossover between the Fox Marvel Cinematic Universe and the MCU, Hugh Jackman also wanted to see his character interact with a specific Avenger. The actor wanted to see Wolverine and Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man sharing the screen.
“Because personally, I would love to mix it up with Robert Downey Jr. and Iron Man and kick his ass. It’d be great. (laughs) There you go. There’s your quote” said Jackman.
Not only did he want these two to interact, but Jackman wanted to go head-to-head against Tony Stark and have a battle between these two characters. While the Fox side of Marvel is blending with the main universe now, through Deadpool & Wolverine, after Avengers: Endgame, Iron Man would never get to go test his power against Wolverine’s claws.
