After Dean Winchester in Supernatural and Soldier Boy in The Boys, fans would love to see Jensen Ackles don the Batman role in James Gunn’s DCU. Ackles has already given voice to the role in several direct-to-video DC animation projects, including Batman: The Long Halloween. However, one comment from his co-star in these films could be concerning for the actor’s DCU debut.

Jensen Ackles was one of the fan favorites to play the role of Batman in Zack Snyder’s DCEU before Ben Affleck took over. Fans are once again rooting for the actor for the role of the Caped Crusader in The Brave and the Bold. Ackles got to play the voice role of Batman in the DC animated features, including Batman: The Long Halloween, Legion of Superheroes, and Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths.

Troy Baker, who starred as Joker alongside Ackles in a number of these films, shared that he wouldn’t have imagined Ackles in the role of Batman. During an interview with Coming Soon, Troy Baker shared that there were some actors like Titus Welliver whose voice screamed that he was playing Carmine Falcone. However, this was not the case with Billy Burke or Ackles.

Baker shared that he wouldn’t have thought of casting Ackles in the role. However, once he heard him voicing Bruce Wayne, especially in the storyline of The Long Halloween, his casting made perfect sense. Baker shared with Coming Soon:

But then you look at Billy Burke and you go, “That’s the last person I would think to play Gordon.” And he knocks it out of the park. Jensen Ackles is same way. I would not think to hire Jensen Ackles to play Batman. But the second that you hear him, especially where we find the character in this story, it makes perfect sense.

Fans will find it hard to believe that Baker couldn’t see Ackles playing the role of the Dark Knight. However, Baker went on to share another thing about the Smallville actor that would give fans some hope. Baker shared that Ackles is a “versatile actor” who has an affinity for the Batman character. Baker revealed that Ackles put all his experience, talent, and passion into the role.

Jensen Ackles could be the perfect pick for Batman in The Brave and the Bold, based on Grant Morrison’s comic storyline. The story explores the relationship between Batman and his son Damian Wayne. With his experience of voicing the role in animated projects, Ackles is confident that he could pull off the role in the film.

When asked about playing the role in James Gunn‘s DCU, Ackles told Deadline, “I mean, could I do it? Sure. Would I want to do it? Yes.” No DC fan will ever doubt the actor’s skills to play the action-packed role after his roles in Supernatural and The Boys. The Batman movie in the DCU has yet to finalize its casting.

James Gunn shut down the rumors of the film having already fixed its cast. He wrote on Threads, “No. We haven’t even begun casting for the DCU Batman.” It means that Gunn can still decide on casting Ackles in the role. Another popular contender for the role is Reacher‘s Alan Ritchson.
