One of the Oscar nominations the movie received also included Best Costume Design. Based in the late 1970s and early 1080s, the movie had some of the best costumes of the year. Talking about her look during an interview with MTV News, Lawrence shared what she really thought of her braless dress in the movie.
“I wouldn’t say that it’s ever exciting to see yourself without a bra in a dress that’s three sizes too small for you,” she stated as she explained that she “normally wear[s] bras.” However, the Oscar winner further shared that although she did not feel excited about it, she still found her costume freeing.
Jennifer Lawrence Almost Ruined Her American Hustle Dress
Oscar-nominated costume designer Michael Wilkinson has shared that during one of the scenes, Jennifer Lawrence’s character was supposed to spill champagne over herself, for which they created four different versions of her dress.
As per Vanity Fair, the costume designer was glad that they had a couple of backups. Explaining how the actress got Doritos stains on her costume, Wilkinson said,
“Jennifer Lawrence is a very . . . let’s say . . . raw and intuitive young lady, and she’s not against eating Doritos and snack food in her costume.”
However, it was not the only issue. The costume designer also shared that Amy Adams’ vintage Diane von Furstenberg wrap dress, which they borrowed from the vintage shop, also had a wine stain when they received it. But the dress was just so amazing to let go of. Along with Adams, the filmmaker David O. Russell also loved the dress and decided to keep it in the movie despite its stain.
