Chris Pine’s most recognizable film appearance is undoubtedly his role as Captain James T. Kirk in the hit science fiction franchise Star Trek. He portrayed the part earnestly that many fans would believe he was the top choice for the role, but he wasn’t.
The actor landed on the part after a series of unexpected events. There was a point when he completely forgot about his audition as he never really thought they wanted him. In the end, Pine was the chosen one.
Chris Pine Almost Missed The Opportunity To Join Star Trek
During his video interview with Entertainment Weekly, actor Chris Pine talked about his audition for the Star Trek film. He took over the role of Captain Kirk in JJ Abrams’ 2009 reboot and reprised the character in 2013’s Star Trek Into Darkness and 2016’s Star Trek Beyond.
“I got the audition for it, went out for it, didn’t get it, didn’t think anything of it. Three, four, five months had passed so I’d like completely forgotten about it, and then I went off and did this film, and my agent said, ‘Do you want to go in for Star Trek again?’ I said, ‘I already go in, I didn’t get the part. I didn’t think it was any good,’ and he said, ‘They want you to come back in and audition for JJ.’ ”
The actor did not mention why he was turned down in the first audition, and he also failed to share what made him try again. But, fans would be glad that he listened to his guts because this time, he was going to be chosen.
“I remember going in, and JJ was really fun, and you know, it’s ridiculous, you’re sitting, standing, acting in an office in Hollywood, and you’re talking about phasers and thrusters and the battleships going down and Klingons are coming after you. It’s acting with a capital A.”
Pine remarked that auditioning is very fun but also disheartening. For the actor, it was “much more the case I think back then than it is now, where it’s like to be in a film was like a big, big effing deal.”
Indeed, Star Trek is a huge deal since it is one of the most popular movie franchises in Hollywood. The fact that it also rivals George Lucas’ Star Wars only makes it even more of a massive shot.
Chris Pine Remains Clueless About Star Trek 4
As for the upcoming Star Trek 4, Pine has a disappointing update. Even the lead actor has no clue whatsoever about the progress of the movie. He did not even know that they still didn’t have a script. He told Business Insider:
“I thought there was already a script, but I guess I was wrong, or they decided to pivot. As it’s always been with ‘Trek,’ I just wait and see.”
The cast members remain in the dark with the development of the film so fans will have to wait a little longer. Meanwhile, Star Trek movies are available to stream on Paramount+.
