The Justice League filmmaker has kept the progress on his science fiction movie Rebel Moon relatively under wraps. According to the film’s trailer, the story of the first part, Rebel Moon: Part One – A Child of Fire displays the vastness of space through dramatic sequences.

The film is a passion project for the former DCEU director, and it appears that he is narratively embracing his more established Justice League style for this upcoming Netflix film.

Also, he recently revealed that he hired Ray Porter, who voiced Darkseid in Justice League, to record the entire script of Rebel Moon so that he could hear the rhythms of the language.

The Man of Steel director decided to use Porter’s narration rhythm and instincts as a guide when directing Rebel Moon’s scenes because the actor’s voice connected so strongly with Snyder’s creative process.

The Dawn of the Dead director stated he would listen to Porter’s recordings in order to get prepared for on-set Rebel Moon filming, adding:

“Every day before I’d come to work, I’d listen to Ray read the scene. […] So on the drive in, I’ll listen to it to remind me, ‘Oh yeah, this is what we’re doing.’”

He further explained:

“Hear the dialogue and everything. It’s good fun. I’ve never done it for a movie, but I would do it that way from now on. Because you sit in the car and you have your script and you get carsick and you’re like, ‘Oh god, this is exhausting,’ but if you just put your headphones on … And actually, because I wrote the script, I’m always like, ‘What did we say? What was that?’”

Ray Porter Contributes Significant Voice Credits

Ray Porter was called back early in the filming process to read passages of the script aloud, in addition to having a small role in Rebel Moon. Zack Snyder ultimately decided that Porter should just recite the entire script as he saw fit on tape.

The actor has previously narrated several audiobooks, and his assured voice made it easier for Snyder to picture and go over the drafted scenes for Rebel Moon. The filmmaker further said:

“And it’s just nice to hear it back and be like, ‘Oh yeah, that’s right.’ Because we gave that a lot of thought. Two years ago, that’s all I cared about. That document becomes abstract. You’re like, ‘Did I write this? I never meant that. That’s crazy.’”

Given the actor’s background in reading a variety of characters in stories, Porter’s narration served as a dramatization of the scenes. But Snyder did not say whether the Darkseid actor would read only the first chapter of Rebel Moon or if he would record the audio for both movies.
