Charlie Cox’s Daredevil persona is quite popular among the fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After Netflix’s Daredevil got canceled just three seasons into the show, fans were furious and started a ‘Save Daredevil’ campaign just to see their favorite lawyer back on their screens. Fans’ persistence didn’t go to waste as Charlie Cox is all set to return in Daredevil: Born Again.

Charlie Cox’s proper entry into MCU opens up speculations about other characters that could very well feature in upcoming Marvel projects, including Jon Bernthal as Punisher and Ben Barnes as Jigsaw, both featured in The Punisher. Luckily for the fans, Ben Barnes himself has shown hopes of reprising his character.

In an interview with ComicBook.com, Ben Barnes was asked if he has moved on from Jigsaw or if he would consider reprising his role as the vicious criminal mastermind. To the fans’ delight, he answered that he would absolutely love playing The Punisher’s villain once again if Marvel prompts him to.

I loved playing that character. I loved kind of like discovering through the course of the show that we did on Netflix, discovering this kind of like abused child inside of this psychopathic, you know, unhinged, scarred marine body, and I loved how unpredictable he was.”

Considering how Barnes talks about his character, one thing that’s for sure is that the actor is proud of playing one of the most spectacular villains seen on-screen.

Another reason Barnes would like to bring his character back on the screens is his ex-co-star, Jon Bernthal, who played Punisher. The actor stated that he loved working alongside him. Who knows, maybe if Bernthal was to reprise his character as well, a Jigsaw and Punisher reunion might actually happen.

If the Cabinet of Curiosities actor does come back as Jigsaw, he would prefer to play a more “gnarly version of him” regarding the character’s personality and looks. He suggested that the creators could “beat him up more again” or “smash his face into something again” pointing towards the Jigsaw vs. Punisher fight at the carousel.

Even though Ben Barnes himself wants to return as Jigsaw, the possibility might be minuscule as the character has already reached his ending in The Punisher. After Billy Russo was killed by the Punisher himself, the actor agrees that Jigsaw has met his finale.

I think we sort of did tie up that story in a quite satisfying way. So I don’t hold out a lot of hope for that.”

The probability of Ben Barnes returning as Jigsaw might be less, but with characters like Daredevil and Kingpin joining the MCU, there is no harm in keeping the hopes alive. Maybe Daredevil: Born Again will shine a light on the future of The Punisher’s fascinating characters.

Daredevil: Born Again is set to release in the Spring of 2024.
