The actor portrays the French king Louis XV and features alongside actress and filmmaker Maïwenn in the film. The film, which premiered at the 76h Annual Film Festival this week, has been surrounded by controversies for the past few days.
However, despite the backlash, Jeanne du Barry received a seven-minute standing ovation at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival. While the Pirates of the Caribbean star was overwhelmed with the response, fans started a conversation about his rotting teeth online. Although he has not said anything so far regarding the trolling, Depp earlier said he is unbothered by his rotting teeth.

Johnny Depp recently joined the cast of Jeanne du Barry for the world premiere of his upcoming film at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival. People were quick to spot the actor’s rotting teeth during his appearance at the annual film festival and started trolling him for the same.
However, it doesn’t seem like he is bothered by trolls or his rotten teeth. The trolling for his teeth has caused an old interview, in which he said that he was “proud” of his imperfect smile. During a 1995 interview with Premiere magazine, the Edward Scissorhands star admitted having “loads of cavities.”
He also shared, “I had a root canal done eight years ago that’s unfinished. It’s like a rotten little stub.” As he proudly talked about his teeth, Depp also shared that “it drives [him] up the wall” every time he sees someone with “perfect teeth.”
He said, “I’d rather swallow a tick than have that!” While people are busy talking about his decaying teeth, the Alice in Wonderland actor is enjoying the response to his film and performance in the upcoming film Jeanne du Barry.

However, despite the backlash, he received a seven-minute standing ovation for his performance in the historical drama.
Variety reports that Depp was overwhelmed by the response and was holding back tears as he waved to the audience. He also received a warm welcome from his fans as he showed up on the red carpet. Film’s director Maïwenn, who stars opposite Depp in the movie, also broke down with the response the film received.
