Berserk has one of the most gruelling plots, and the protagonist has to suffer a lot. There was almost no happiness left for him after his friend betrayed him. When Kentaro Miura was asked what kind of ending Berserk would have, he gave an unclear answer. He opted for a neutral answer, and the fans started to believe that Guts might finally be at peace.

Guts Might Finally See The Face of Happiness

Guts is the protagonist of Berserk and one of the most underrated characters in anime history. He suffered so much and had to put up against so much evil, yet he never deviated from his path. The grim and dark plot of Berserk has never been kind to him. Guts lost his team members, lost one of his limbs, and had to watch his best friend r*pe his girlfriend.

He was always in pain, and it was difficult for the fans to watch it. Seeing how Guts was being treated, Kentaro Miura was asked during an interview, whether there is a happy ending in store for the fans. He answered, “I’d say it’s possible. I used to have the final moves planned out, but lately, I’ve been thinking I’d rather figure them out when I come to it, so now it’s hard to say what could happen.”

He further added, “Being the sort of person I am, though, I actually don’t think I could let such a long grim story end with a grim ending — like, say, having him suddenly die. I don’t really like that kind of entertainment. I’ll leave it to my subconscious.” The creator also did not want his magnum opus to have a grim ending, considering he was the one who sent Guts down the road of agony.

Kentaro Miura Will Always Be Remembered For His Unfinished Work

Kentaro Miura is one of the few unfortunate mangaka who does not get to experience the ending of their magnum opus. He died on May 6, 2021, leaving the fans with tons of entertainment and nostalgia. The seinen genre reached great heights thanks to Berserk and its gripping plot. No one knows how Guts’ journey will end, but considering the late great mangaka hinted at a happy ending, Kouji Mori should aim for it.

Even if Mori wraps up the plot with a great ending, fans will always remember Miura sensei for carrying the series for so long. It was he who set the standard and kept the story going. Moreover, fans want to see Guts and Casca living peacefully after the former takes down all the underworld beings, including his former friend Griffith/Femto.
