While speaking to John Horowitz in a recent interview, John Wick director Chad Stahelski talked about possibly directing a Star Wars movie in the future. Chad Stahelski made it clear he had some ideas and wondered if Disney could survive him if he ended up directing a Star Wars movie.

In case you were not aware, Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon was originally a part of Star Wars but it was ultimately rejected – which led to Zack Snyder creating the film as a standalone project that Star Wars influenced.

Zack Snyder has been involved in Hollywood filmmaking since the 2004 Dawn of the Dead remake, but the concept for Rebel Moon predates his career. While speaking to Screen Rant, Deborah Snyder revealed that her husband had the idea for the film 20 years ago, even before their marriage.

The fun part about this and this idea that Zack had, I think it started like before we were even married, so like 20 years ago, 21 years ago, and he wanted to do something science fiction.

He kept coming back. He originally worked on it with Kurt Johnston. And then we brought in Shay. And the three of them worked on the script together. And yeah, it’s been years. But he has a lot of these that have been around. I was like, it’s kind of a matter of time, but it’s a good time for things. And it seemed to be a good time for this.

Zack Snyder initially thought of it during film school, proposing a space-based version of Dirty Dozen or Seven Samurai. Inspired by Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai, a major influence on George Lucas for Star Wars, the project was pitched to Warner Bros. multiple times and was once envisioned as a TV show – but nothing really stuck.
