The Last of Us Part I

Troy Baker, who voiced Joel in the games, addressed the possibility of The Last Of Us Part 3. Baker revealed on ComicBook.com’s The Last of Pods podcast that he would be quite open to reprising his role as Joel in the future. Even though he has no idea if another sequel to The Last of Us will ever be made, Baker stated that he would return if writer and director Neil Druckmann wanted him back in some way.

“My whole thing is this, and people always ask, ‘Is there going to be a Last of Us Part 3?’ I have no idea. No idea. I didn’t know there was going to be a Part II. But if Neil has a story that he wants to tell, and he wants me to be a part of it in any way, I am there seven days a week and twice on Sunday. I absolutely would follow him, and I followed him to the gates of hell and back, and bought ice cream.”

As of now, there is no official confirmation from the creators of the game about the third part. In an interview, the creator Neil Druckmann talked about the possibility of part 3, and he was actually very transparent about such a possibility.

The show is doing extremely well and HBO is very impressed with its success. But the buzz of the show has not taken attention away from the games, The last of part 2, released in 2018, continues to be played to date. However, there is a chance that there might not be another part of the games.

During the program’s press tour, game series creative director and HBO show co-creator Neil Druckmann briefed everyone on the status of Part 3, including the possibility that it might not materialize at all. In an interview with Buzzfeed, Druckmann stated that Naughty Dog hasn’t decided what’s next for the mainstream The Last of Us series and doesn’t feel forced to do so.

“We’re very privileged that our publisher is Sony. They have supported us every step of the way to follow our passions — meaning that just because something is successful, people think there’s all this pressure and we have to make a sequel.”

He continued,

“That’s not the case. For us, Uncharted was insanely successful — Uncharted 4 was one of our best-selling games — and we’re able to put our final brushstroke on that story and say that we’re done. We’re moving on. Likewise, with The Last of Us, it’s up to us whether we want to continue or not.”

This does not necessarily imply that the series is over. According to Druckmann, the crew is constantly tossing narrative ideas back and forth in the hopes that something will stick. But we shouldn’t expect another installment of the franchise until they find the ideal one.

Whatever happens next with The Last of Us games, Druckmann has made it abundantly clear that the next numbered entry, if it occurs at all, will be a long time coming. Until then, Naughty Dog is presently working on a multiplayer offshoot of The Last of Us and hasn’t publicly announced what its next major single-player project will be.
