In the span of 27 years, Oda has introduced a total of 11 sagas and 32 arcs, and each of these narratives focuses on a new environment that has never been seen before. All of this is possible because of one aspect that he introduced at the beginning of the One Piece story. This aspect was the Grand Line and the mysteries that it holds.

The mysteries of the Grand Line are not limited to one specific region or environment. The world-building in the Grand Line is unlimited, thus giving Oda an advantage that other manga creators can only dream of. This is also one of the reasons why One Piece is one of the biggest anime and manga series in the world.

The Epic World Building of One Piece by Eiichiro Oda

One Piece revolves around the concept of pirates and their adventures throughout the seas and the islands spread all across the world. The best part about the pirates’ adventure is that it is not limited to one particular area and can spread all over the world, capturing different ideologies and cultures that are rolled out in different corners of the world.

Some areas are technically advanced (Egghead Island), while others are still following the culture of the gods (Skypiea). Some have the mystical elements of ancient Egypt (Alabasta), and others are dark and scary (Thriller Bark). Eiichiro Oda has the power to create any kind of world he sees fit for the next adventure of his main characters.

This allows him to manipulate the narrative as he sees fit, giving him total control over the story, the characters, their actions, and their future. The world-building of One Piece is considered to be the best in the anime and manga world, and no other series can catch up to it.

The Advantage Eiichiro Oda Has in One Piece

According to @sandman_AP on X(Formerly Twitter), in 2007, Oda gave an interview where he revealed how it is possible for him to make so many small worlds in the One Piece universe and still keep it relevant to the central theme of the story of pirates and their adventures. All of this was possible because of the reasoning that he mentioned in the One Piece manga.

Oda stated:

I can draw anything I want because I have a reasoning in my manga that says, *In Grand Line, anything is possible*. If I want to draw a country like India, I can just draw it in the next arc. If I want to draw a sports manga, I can just create Sports Island.

According to the manga creator, when the Straw Hat Pirates reached the Grand Line, a reasoning was given to the One Piece fans through the manga series “In Grand Line, anything is possible.”

This allowed the fans to broaden their scope of the upcoming arcs and narratives in One Piece and get ready for any kind of surprise. It also gave Oda complete comfort in mapping the One Piece world however he sees fit.
