It’s none other than Matthew Lewis, who heightened excitement and anticipation with his desire to return.

Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson’s Complete Disinterest in Harry Potter Reboot

However, while Warner Bros’ announcement sent fans into a frenzy, people became overly curious to know more about the casting. But unfortunately, despite Potterheads’ plea, Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson refused to return to the reboot.

Both stars from the Golden Trio have repeatedly expressed their disinterest in the Harry Potter reboot when Daniel Radcliffe purposefully noted that he would prefer new actors in the series, since it’s going to be a fresh take. Speaking with Access Hollywood, Radcliffe stated that if the studio is aiming for a new series, they must cast fresh actors in the iconic roles, rather than hiring the original actors from the film series.

I think it’s very much like they’re going for a new series. There would be somebody else playing Harry. So I think it would be very weird for me to show up. I’m very excited to see what other people do with it. The comparison I’ve made is to a story like Sherlock Holmes. I think the Potter series of books was always gonna be bigger than one interpretation or one franchise, so it’ll be cool to see the torch get passed on.

Meanwhile, as for Emma Watson, The Direct reported that J.K. Rowling‘s controversial comments somewhat formed a roadblock for Watson, who has been vocal about human rights and feminism. Therefore, based on how Rowling and Watson share different opinions on trans rights, the Hermione Granger actress appeared not so open to collaborating with the British author.

Matthew Lewis Chose a Character for Himself in Case He Returned to the Reboot

However, in a magical twist that’s got fans buzzing, Matthew Lewis, known for playing Neville Longbottom in the Harry Potter films, has expressed his desire to return in the reboot. During the Harry Potter panel at MegaCon Orlando (via People), when the stars were asked about their desire to return to the new series, Lewis revealed his unexpected yet delightful aspiration.

Initially hesitant about his return, since he’d be too old to play Neville and it would be challenging for him to fill the shoes of other actors’ characters, Matthew Lewis answered that he had “no idea” who he’d play. Expressing his respect and admiration for his co-stars and peers for their phenomenal performances, Lewis initially refused to venture into the wand-wielding adventures.

Gosh, I have no idea. It’s very difficult as well because everyone just did such a wonderful job. I genuinely don’t think there’s anyone that I would want to even attempt to play.

Nonetheless, after stressing a bit, Matthew Lewis was able to set his sights on a new role for the upcoming Harry Potter reboot. Forget casting spells as Neville, the actor mentioned eyeing the spot of Professor Remus Lupin in the new series. Willing to swap his Gryffindor colors for a pair of sensible professor robes, Lewis expressed his desire to play the ever-charming member of the Marauders – Moony

[I’d be] too old to play Neville again. [But based] purely on when I read the books, the character I enjoyed was Professor Lupin. The incomparable David Thewlis could never be beaten. [But] If I was to have a go, that would be one that I’d do.

Admitting that his keen interest in the beloved Defense Against the Dark Arts professor is rooted in more than just admiration for the actor David Thewlis, Matthew Lewis claimed that he would love to trade his old wand for a new kind of Hogwarts charm. So, it seems that while Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson might be sitting this one out, Lewis is ready to don a new magical persona.
