Finn Wolfhard has emerged as one of Hollywood’s prominent young stars since he shot to stardom with the Netflix original Stranger Things. He has notably taken on significant roles in blockbuster projects like the It film series and the cherished Ghostbusters franchise. However, with devoted fans often comes increased scrutiny, especially for beloved cultural phenomena like Ghostbusters.
This was particularly evident with the 2021 installment of the franchise, and Wolfhard being a fan himself, expressed understanding of the concerns raised by the dedicated audience.
Finn Wolfhard Understands Fans Concerns
Starring alongside an ensemble cast including Paul Rudd and Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard took on the role of Trevor in the 2021 film Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Serving as the fourth installment in the franchise, following the 2016 adaptation, the movie faced skepticism from dedicated fans who were disappointed with the previous installment.
Wolfhard, who played the role of Egon Spengler’s grandson, addressed fans’ concerns in an interview with Sharp Magazine. He shared that as a fan himself, he understands the disappointment when a beloved franchise is mishandled. He said,
“It’s hard for me because I’m also a fan of things. If it’s a movie that I care about or a franchise I care about, and they mess it up? If I’m a fan, I’ll be disappointed. That sucks.”
He also assured fans that they would love the movie. Ghostbusters: Afterlife ultimately received a positive response from the audience, earning praise for its nostalgic elements and the cast’s performances. The film grossed $204 million worldwide against a budget of $75 million, and a sequel, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, is set to release soon.
