Chris Rock, who has been making headlines for various reasons in recent years, notably for his comedy specials and a certain Oscar incident, finds himself in the spotlight once again, especially as the Oscars approach this year. This time, the conversation regarding the infamous incident resurfaces but for a different reason. Reports suggest that Chris Rock has been selected to direct the American version of Another Round, originally directed by Thomas Vinterberg. As a result, Vinterberg has voiced his opinion about the choice.
Chris Rock to Direct Another Round Remake!
The comedian Chris Rock who has directed a handful of movies including the recent Top Five, is set to direct an English adaptation of the Danish masterpiece directed by Thomas Vinterberg. The 2020 Mads Mikkelsen dark comedy Druk, which translates to “binge-drinking” in Danish, portrays four high school teachers in midlife crises experimenting with staying constantly intoxicated during work hours.
The remake has been in the works for some time, especially after winning an Academy Award and a BAFTA with Leonardo DiCaprio supposedly being involved in the project. Now that Rock’s involvement has been finalized, it seems that the movie’s production is gaining full momentum.
Thus, very recently Vinterberg was asked to share his thoughts about the American remake, and Chris Rock being the pick to direct, and what he said is beyond unbelievable.
The director is definitely excited for Rock to direct the upcoming remake but turns out Rock alone isn’t the only comedian around, Vinterberg also packs some power punch with his pun lines, and thus very honestly presented his thoughts, he said to Ekstra Bladet,
“The choice of Chris Rock is exciting. It’s exciting what he comes up with. I am full of good expectations, If it’s shit, he’ll get slapped again”
Although his comments here are translated as per NME, they don’t lose their humorous flair, the director of Another Round does have faith in Chris Rock’s vision and is eager to see how the comedian presents the tale in a more Americanized version. And so are the fans!
What’s Known About the New Another Round Remake Till Now?
Leonardo DiCaprio is reportedly spearheading the American remake of the Oscar-winning Danish film. The rights to Druk were acquired by his production company, Appian Way, in 2021. While there has been speculation about DiCaprio himself taking on the lead role, no official confirmation has surfaced.
Although this would be an interesting pick for a remake in English, Hollywood often adapts foreign films, especially after its success in global markets, and only time will tell if this was a good idea after all.
Reports also indicate that Stuart Bloomberg penned a script draft, with plans for another writer to finalize it. The success of Chris Rock’s remake hinges on several factors. An important aspect lies in assembling a stellar cast, perhaps including DiCaprio in Mikkelsen’s role, while maintaining the essence of the original story rather than skimming it through to make it a comedy.
