Stellar Blade has had a lot of eyes on it, even before its release. It was swirling in numerous controversies, one of the biggest being around its character design, especially for the protagonist, Eve.
However, when the demo came out, the discourse shifted to talking about how polished it felt, especially for a studio whose expertise was in mobile gacha. The game’s state upon release only furthered this sentiment, and one passionate Redditor has seemingly had it with other studios.
Game Devs Should Be Ashamed, Says Stellar Blade Fan
One post from a disgruntled fan of SHIFT UP’s latest game has sparked numerous debates. The post talked about the lackluster releases from other bigger studios, compared to SHIFT UP.
Having just beaten the game, OP was astonished that a “random mobile game developer from Korea” was able to make something of this caliber, which was astonishing to them, especially considering how South Korea’s console gaming market is not very prominent.

Naming games like Skull and Bones, Gotham Knights, and Starfield among others, state that while all of the titles aren’t completely bad, the contrast between these and Stellar Blade made them realize that developers are prioritizing profit over player enjoyment.
They go on to state that, in their opinion, the game is a 10/10 in every aspect and is a unique experience devoid of bugs, microtransactions, or other predatory payment models.
Players Respond, and There’s Some Clarifications

One reply clarified that SHIFT UP is not a “random company” like OP had stated; the company’s mobile gacha Goddess of Victory: NIKKE is quite popular in countries like South Korea and Japan, and the game has generated a ton of revenue.
However, they agreed with the rest of OP’s sentiment. It truly is a miracle seeing a company venture into the 3D AAA space for the first time and knock it out of the park for the most part.

One user felt that the narrative OP was pushing was not the whole story. They agreed with most of the points, but pointing at Stellar Blade as the sole good game in a sea of flops was something they didn’t feel was accurate.
They named a few hit titles from last year, like Baldur’s Gate 3, Alan Wake 2, Hi-Fi Rush, and Lies of P. And, they mentioned that among all of the titles mentioned Stellar Blade wasn’t one of the best.

And, to their credit, multiple other replies mentioned the same, in that the game wasn’t a 10/10 like many were making it out to be.
Most complaints revolved around the story and writing, with praise for the combat and gameplay.
