Ari Aster was awestruck by Joaquin Phoenix’s extreme commitment to his role

While Speaking with The New York Times, the Midsommar director didn’t hold back while expressing his respect for Joaquin Phoenix. Aster went on to commend the Joker star for his extreme dedication toward his role and said that Phoenix is ruthlessly investigative while filming his scenes. Following the actor’s physical determination to the script, the director has nothing but praise for the actor. He said,

“Joaquin is ruthlessly investigative. If something feels false or not right, he won’t be able to do it. It’s not even about him refusing to do something, his body will stop him.”

Joaquin Phoenix also didn’t back away from praising Aster for his immaculate skills as a filmmaker and expressed that they both brought out the best in each other. Following their respect for each other, it seems that the upcoming movie Beau is Afraid might not be the last time the two would come across each other.

Joaquin Phoenix hints toward the idea of working with Ari Aster again in the future

Considering that both the actor and the director have been pretty outspoken about their respect for each other, it seems that Beau is Afraid is just the beginning of their journey together. Although Aster has expressed that after Beau is Afraid, he will most likely direct a Western, Joaquin Phoenix has hinted about working with the director again in the future. Phoenix stated,

“Sometimes it’s as simple as I could be around you for four months because I like the way you talk about these characters. And I can see that you have a willingness to push yourself, and to be pushed and to push back, and that’s exciting to me.”
