There is no official announcement placing Garfield in Scorsese’s upcoming feature based on the ministry of Jesus Christ. The actor previously collaborated with the director in the film Silence. Scorsese’s latest film, revolving around Jesus and his teachings, will be set in the modern day. The film is reportedly going to be  80 minutes long, making it Scorsese’s shortest film yet. The director has revealed to LA Times why he has made the film so short. He said:

“I’m trying to find a new way to make it more accessible and take away the negative onus of what has been associated with organized religion,”

The thesis of the film, setting it in the modern day, would be to remove the negative connotations that have become synonymous with organized religion. The film will serve as an adaptation of the novel A Life of Jesus, written by Shūsaku Endō. The author was also the writer of the source material for Scorsese’s Silence, which starred Adam Driver, Liam Neeson and Andrew Garfield.
