Even though they initially scared the fans, the Z warriors would always bounce back to eradicate the evil beings. Akira Toriyama gave a massive advantage to the Z warriors when it came to dealing with the villains. Their number always guaranteed victory, irrespective of the antagonist’s power levels.

The Dragon Ball franchise was never short of character. The mangaka kept on including one character after another. While most of the good guys joined the Z warriors, some antagonists also followed them. By the end of Dragon Ball Super, there were more than ten people in the group. It automatically gave them an advantage over any villain that could appear. Even Akira Toriyama found it unfair.

He said, “I’m always thinking of how there are a lot of guys on our side but only one enemy. If you think about it, isn’t it unfair? (laughs) They can just gang up on him. (laughs).” Initially, it was Goku, Krillin, and the Turtle Hermit. Then Yamcha, Tien, and Piccolo joined. In Dragon Ball Z, Gohan, Vegeta, Trunks, and Gotens joined. There was no shortage of fighters for them. Even if the villain was strong, fighting each of them would make him tired.

Goku was the first to transform into Super Saiyan, Vegeta, and Gohan joined him. All of them trained hard, and their emotional state boosted their transformation. Trunks and Goten never faced these situations, yet they could easily become Super Saiyan. It was as if the legendary status had become a child’s play. After all these, there was never a chance for any villains to stand up to them. If anyhow one of them overpowers everyone, Vegito could save the day.

The massive gang helped the Z warriors win the Tournament of Power in Dragon Ball Super. Even though every universe had ten members, universe 7 greatly benefitted since they knew each other. In the end, when only Jiren, Goku, Frieza, and Android 17 were the remaining warriors, the latter three teamed up on Jiren. Goku and Frieza sacrificed themselves and took Jiren out with them. Android 17 was the only remaining participant confirming Universe 7’s victory.

Late Akira Toriyama knew that he was giving an unfair advantage to the protagonists, but it was all done for the plot. Considering the overpowered villains, it might have been necessary to form the group. Moreover, the Saiyans would never gang up on their opponents since they preferred to fight alone. On the other hand, Piccolo, Tien, Krillin, etc., were not strong enough to face the likes of Frieza, Perfect Cell, and Majin Buu.

Dragon Ball can be streamed on Crunchyroll, and the manga is available on Viz Media.
