The team behind Emma Stone and Willem Dafoe’s makeup and hair in Poor Things won Best Makeup and Hairstyling at the 2024 Oscars.
Nadia Stacey, Mark Coulier, and Josh Weston won the award on Sunday night instead of the team who did Bradley Cooper’s makeup for Maestro.
The 49-year-old’s film was expected to win, but perhaps the online controversy surrounding his use of a fake nose to portray Leonard Bernstein prevented it.
Jimmy Kimmel took aim at the A-list crowd at the 96th Academy Awards, so he took this opportunity to throw some shade at Cooper’s Oscar snub, too.
Jimmy Kimmel Mocked Bradley Cooper’s Fake Nose in Maestro
Bradley Cooper‘s film Maestro lost the Best Makeup award to Poor Things at the 2024 Oscars, surprising many after the controversy over the Hollywood star wearing a prosthetic nose to play Leonard Bernstein.
Some social media users criticized (on X) Cooper’s facial transformation as “horribly antisemitic” due to his use of a false nose.
Now that it lost an Oscar in the category of Best Makeup and Hairstyling, Jimmy Kimmel takes aim at Cooper’s nose in the film while addressing Colman Domingo‘s casting in the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic. The host said:
“If you think Maestro had some good fake noses, hang on to your jerri curls because you aint seen nothing yet.”
he talked about how Colman was playing Joesph and said "if you think Maestro had some good fake noses, hang on to your jerri curls because you aint seen nothing yet" 😒

Cooper’s team, which included Kay Georgiou, Lori McCoy-Bell, and Academy Award-winning makeup artist Kazu Hiro, competed against the Poor Things crew, but lost ultimately.
Leonard Bernstein’s Children Defend Bradley Cooper’s Nose in Maestro
Despite some viewers pushing back on Cooper’s transformation, Leonard Bernstein’s children, Jamie, Alexander, and Nina, released a joint statement in August 2023 (on Bernstein’s official Instagram page) praising the filmmaker’s vision to portraying their father. Read the statement below:
“It breaks our hearts to see any misrepresentations or misunderstandings of his efforts. It happens to be true that Leonard Bernstein had a nice, big nose. Bradley chose to use makeup to amplify his resemblance, and we’re perfectly fine with that.”
The film received seven Oscar nominations in total, including nods for Best Picture, Cooper’s script, and the lead performances by both the Nightmare Alley star and Carey Mulligan.
Watch Poor Things on Disney+ and Maestro on Netflix.
