Ever since he took over as the new co-CEO of DC Studios, James Gunn has been teasing several upcoming projects. One of these also includes a possible show or movie based on the DC character, Lobo, which is expected to feature Jason Momoa in the lead. The DC star, who is popularly known for portraying Aquaman, is once again set to reprise his role in the sequel to the 2018 film, which will release this year. But even after this, fans are expecting to see him as Lobo.

However, as he currently portrays Arthur Curry in the DCEU, it seemed unlikely to happen. But as Gunn and Safran discarded several DCEU characters, things became quite uncertain for the future of the DCU. And now the Sweet Girl star has also hinted that he could be more than Aquaman in the DC universe.

Jason Momoa Talks About His Future in the DCU

Jason Momoa has been playing Aquaman since 2016. After having a cameo in the 2016 film Dawn of Justice, Momoa was inducted into the Justice League in the 2017 film. He also starred in a solo film as the King of Atlantis in James Wan’s 2018 film, Aquaman.

However, it is still uncertain if Jason Momoa will continue to portray the same character in James Gunn’s DCU or not. There have been numerous rumors about the Suicide Squad director planning to introduce Lobo, the bounty hunter, in the new DCU. And fans are demanding to see the Justice League star playing the character.

During his recent interview with Variety, the Slumberland star shared that he recently had a meeting with Warner Bros. He called the meeting “very, very wonderful,” and said the studio is happy with his work.

Momoa said, “I’m in the house of Warner Bros, and they are liking a lot of stuff I’m doing. We got a lot of good things coming.” He further said that he will always be Aquaman, but he also has the potential to portray other characters.

“I’ll always be Aquaman. Ain’t anyone coming in there and taking sh*t. There might be some other characters, too. I can play other things, too. I can be funny and savage and charming.”

Recently, the Wolves star was seen in a video saying that he has received great news from Warner Bros. While it’s unclear whether he’ll continue to play Aquaman or get recast under a new role, his enthusiasm suggested he is still part of James Gunn’s DCU.

What Could be Jason Momoa’s Future in the New DCU?

There have been numerous claims about the projects under the new DCU. James Gunn has already excluded some of the actors who portrayed the DC characters so far. However, there have been reports that the director is not planning to recast or exclude every actor under his new plan.

There are also rumors that Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom could be the last film Momoa would be reprising his current DC character. However, in a recent video, the Braven star shared that he got “great news from Warner Bros.” Sharing his excitement, he said, “Peter, I love you, James, I love you.”

Seeing Momoa’s reaction to the news, it can be assumed that the news would probably be about his future in the DCU. And it could be either about him continuing to portray the King of Atlantis or getting recast as Lobo. As of now, nothing can be said for sure, but it looks like Jason Momoa is not saying goodbye to DC anytime soon.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is set to release on 25 December 2023.
