This year’s Oscars race was especially the toughest for the Best Actress in a Leading Role category, among others. With some of the most exceptionally talented actresses nominated, including Emma Stone, Lily Gladstone, Sandra Hüller, Carey Mulligan, and Annette Bening, every single one of them deserved this honor.
But the Academy eventually ended up choosing Stone as the winner, and Gladstone was inevitably snubbed from what would have been her first-ever Academy Award for one of the best performances of her life in Killers of the Flower Moon. However, The Amazing Spider-Man actress made sure to acknowledge Gladstone even in a time like that.
Emma Stone Acknowledges Lily Gladstone in her Acceptance Speech
While a lot of fans must be feeling snubbed this year after watching Lily Gladstone lose her much-deserved accolade in the Best Actress in a Leading Role category for her performance as Mollie Burkhart, it seems that the actress who ended up winning the award shares similar feelings.
Yes, we’re talking about the stunning beauty Emma Stone, who won the second Academy Award of her career at this year’s Academy Awards for her truly brilliant performance as Bella Baxter in Poor Things. And yes, she did acknowledge her fast friend in her acceptance speech.
After taking the stage in an incredibly overwhelmed manner and actually panicking while accepting the accolade at the Oscars 2024 (“My voice is also a little gone, so, whatever”), The Amazing Spider-Man star went on to address the “women on the stage” and “the women in this category.”
Calling out all the names of the actresses nominated with her — Sandra Hüller (for Anatomy of a Fall), Annette Bening (for Nyad), and Carey Mulligan (for Maestro) — Stone proceeded to acknowledge Gladstone in her acceptance speech at the Oscars 2024 as she said:
“Lily, I’ll share this with you. I’m in awe of you, and it has been such an honor to do all of this together, and I hope to get to keep doing more together.”
But before she could speak more, she broke into a sob, creating an all the more heartbreakingly heartwarming moment – heartbreaking for Gladstone’s snub and heartwarming for the relationship the remarkable duo share with each other.
Emma Stone also Thanked the Person She Loves “bigger than the whole sky”
After thanking everyone and getting a massive round of applause for her endearing acceptance speech, Stone then went on to thank the team who worked so hard to make Poor Things a success. She thanked Yorgos Lanthimos for “this gift of a lifetime in the role of Bella.”
But they weren’t all. After saying a giant ‘thank you’ and ‘I love you’ to her parents, brother, and husband in a rush, the La La Land actress then finally got to thank the one person she loves “bigger than the whole sky”: Her daughter, Louise. As she said:
“And most importantly, my daughter who’s gonna be three in three days and has turned our lives technicolor. I love you bigger than the whole sky, my girl. Thank you so much.”
All in all, not only did Emma Stone make sure to look absolutely gorgeous at the Academy Awards 2024, but she also managed to win everyone’s hearts (even her rivals’) through her acceptance speech!
