“I’m actually putting a lot more”: Akira Toriyama is Going Above and Beyond for Latest Dragon Ball Project

Dragon Ball has been the source of inspiration for numerous new-gen series. The story written by Akira Toriyama continues to rule over fans. Even though we see less of Akira Toriyama being a significant part of Dragon Ball projects, in the announcement for Dragon Ball Daima, the author mentions that he is putting much more into the latest project.

Akira Toriyama is the pioneer of Dragon Ball, and the story written by him is simple yet so enjoyable that decades later, fans can still not get over it. A few days ago, a trailer for the upcoming anime in the Dragon Ball franchise was released titled Dragon Ball Daima, and fans can expect fantastic quality as Akira Toriyama himself has been involved in the project much more than usual.

What is Dragon Ball Daima, and when will it be released?

During this year’s New York Comic-Con, it was announced that the Dragon Ball franchise would be exploring something new and fresh that had never been done before. Dragon Ball Daima was announced, and Akira Toriyama also issued a letter to the fans.

The series is a spin-off where we can see our beloved Z fighters turn into children and battle an evil force, but how they will do it remains a question.

Although some fans are unhappy with this announcement, they expected a continuation of Dragon Ball Super. 

The series is scheduled to release in fall 2024, and fans can barely wait to explore this new and exciting storyline.

Akira Toriyama’s involvement in the production of Dragon Ball Daima

Since the end of Dragon Ball Z, Akira Toriyama’s involvement in the series has kept decreasing, and he has taken a back seat for the remaining projects.

However, he has decided to go above and beyond for this installment. In a letter to fans, Toriyama revealed:

“I’m currently working on a new Dragon Ball. The title is Dragon Ball Daima. Daima is a made-up term… [which] in English would be something like Evil. Due to a conspiracy, Goku and his friends are turned small. In order to fix things, they’ll head off to a new world! It’s a grand adventure with intense action in an unknown and mysterious world.”

He further added:

“Since Goku has to make up for his petite size, he uses his Power Pole to fight, something not seen in a long time. I came up with the story and settings as well as a lot of the designs. I’m actually putting a lot more into this than usual, “Things will unfold that close in on the mysteries of the Dragon Ball World. Hope you all enjoy these different-from-usual battles that are cute and powerful.”

As the involvement of Akira Toriyama raises the expectation that he will be working so closely on the project after a long time, we can expect a good adaptation of the series.
