The reaction of DCEU fans to the news of SnyderCon has been divided. Some look forward to meeting other fans and helping a good cause, while others see it as Snyder cashing in on the uproar over his departure from the DCEU.

Zac Snyder has a loyal fan base, and James Gunn has faced backlash and even hate from some fans. Despite this, Gunn announced his support for SnyderCon in his fashion way through a comment on Twitter.

Gunn’s generosity demonstrates that the event is more than just a vehicle for Snyder to advance his personal goals. According to a tweet from James Gunn, he is “definitely donating.”

Even though he was rehired to helm Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, fans have not forgotten the controversy that ensued. About a month ago, Gunn argued with a Twitter user about selling Synderverse to Netflix and their hashtag #sellthesnyderversetonetflix, calling it the “wackiest hashtag ever.”

“I have to say, this has got to be the wackiest hashtag ever since 1) Netflix hasn’t expressed any such interest (although we’ve discussed other stuff) & 2) Zack hasn’t expressed any interest & seems to be happy doing what he’s doing (and, yes, we too have talked).”

Despite this, James Gunn has kept his head down and made films people talk about. There’s no sign of Gunn slowing down any time soon or paying heed to any hate that comes his way.

In addition to celebrating Snyder’s films, the event is a charity fundraiser, with proceeds going to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and the Autumn Snyder Tribute Fund in honor of Snyder’s late daughter.

Gunn’s support for SnyderCon shows that it is possible to set aside personal disputes and come together for a better cause, even if some fans still hate him for his past actions.
