“I’m dying to make it”: Barbarian Director Zach Cregger Wants to Meet DCU Head James Gunn to Become a Part of Matt Reeves’ ‘The Batman’ Universe

After directing one of the best horror movies of all time, Zach Cregger, now intends to make a spin-off of 2022 The Batman. The American director’s recent film Barbarian has become a critic favorite since its release. The film follows a woman Tess who ends up in an AirBnB with a stranger. Soon they both discover some disturbing secrets about the house. Barbarian has received praise from everyone for its plot and actor’s performances.

While promoting Barbarian, Zach Cregger mentioned that he wrote a story that takes place in the DC universe. He also shared that since he wrote it, he just can’t stop thinking about it, and if given the opportunity, he would love to work with the DC Studio.

Zach Cregger Reveals Batman Spin-off Passion Project

The Barbarian writer and director earlier shared about his Batman spin-off on Bloody Disgusting’s The Boo Crew Podcast. During his appearance on the podcast, he also discussed the production of Barbarian and talked about his future projects.

While talking about what he would like to work on next, he said that he would love to work on a Batman spin-off. He said, “The thing I’d love to do next… I’ve actually written a movie that takes place in the DC Universe.”

The Wrecked star further stated that normally he is not like that and does not really like all the superhero stuff. But he cannot stop thinking about it. He then mentions that his story takes place in a Batman-adjacent thing. The Miss March star also said that he is obsessed with the story and will make it into a movie one day.

Zach Cregger Would Love to Meet James Gunn

James Gunn recently took over as the CEO and Co-chair of the DC Studio. He has worked directed Suicide Squid and Peacemaker. Zach Cregger, who wants to make his spin-off of 2022 The Batman, recently talked about the Guardians of the Galaxy director.

In his interview with Discussing Film, Zach Cregger was asked if he would like to approach the CEO of the DC Studio with his idea. The College star said he would love to if he gets the opportunity. He also said that if he gets a call he will drop everything to make that movie, as it’s his favorite thing he has ever written.

If I got the call, I would drop everything and make that movie in a heartbeat. It’s my favorite thing I’ve ever written. I love it, and I’m dying to make it,” Zach Cregger said.

He also mentioned James Gunn saying, he has never talked to Gunn but would love to meet him and have a conversation with him.

Matt ReevesThe Batman features Robert Pattinson as Batman. The film performed very well at the box office and was also praised by critics. The studio has confirmed a sequel to the 2022 film. Matt Reeves will direct the sequel as well.

However, as James Gunn took over as the CEO, it was also reported that the sequel to The Batman and Joker would not come under him. Both films exist in a separate universe and not in the DCEU. James Gunn is expected to lead mostly DCEU films. 

Zach Cregger probably would have to wait to see his story come to life. Following the release of Barbarian, he is now focusing on his untitled horror film.
