“I am not ignorant of what’s happening out there. I look over people’s shoulders, going, ‘What is that little vignette of a cat on a fan?” she added. “I am just lazy. But I am going to get on it and troll my friends. Once my kids are using it, I will know how to navigate it. I don’t want to be naïve,”

The actress revealed in the past that while doing that movie, she met hackers and was very quickly made aware of the dangers of social media as well as the internet on its own and did not want to risk anything. She did however say that when her children start to use social media, she will educate herself on how to navigate them for the sake of not being in the dark about what happens on these platforms.

Kate Winslet and Scarlett Johansson Feel The Same Way About Social Media

Kate Winslet also agrees with Sandra Bullock, being extremely outspoken about why she is against social media, more specifically her children being on it. The actress does not allow her three kids to be on these platforms as she believes that it takes away from their ability to be children and enjoy their lives. She added that her experience working on her film, I Am Ruth, really reinforced this for her.

“My children don’t have social media and haven’t had social media,” Winslet explained. “There are many fake accounts out there for myself and also my children, weirdly, so I’m told. But it is possible to just say, ‘No you can’t have it.’” She went on, “You can’t have it because I want you to enjoy your life. I want you to be a child,”

The movie focuses on a teenage girl, whose mental health is getting affected due to the influence of social media, while her mother tries to help her. Winslet explained that parents have the right to guide their children if they see something clearly bothering them. While Winslet’s dislike towards social media comes more from the perspective of a parent, Scarlett Johansson has revealed that her reason to leave these platforms has more to do with it being too influential.

“I honestly am too fragile a person to have social media. I can’t, my ego is too fragile. My brain is too fragile, I’m like a delicate flower. I have enough anxiety… I had Instagram once for three days. When I started realizing that I’d spent 20 minutes looking at somebody’s Instagram page who’s worked for a friend of mine, who had a family.” She revealed, “I felt so bad, like I was missing out on this random person’s life. I can’t do this. I’m too fragile.”

Johanson went on to say that she can be very easily influenced and can start envying others very quickly. She added that she deleted her accounts as her anxiety does not allow her to be on these platforms as she can get carried away are start feeling really bad about her own life, a problem that many people face when it comes to platforms like Instagram and TikTok.
