At 79 years old, Harrison Ford continues to take on physically demanding roles in major blockbuster films like the Indiana Jones and Star Wars franchises. While the actor is surprisingly healthy for his age, he hasn’t been able to avoid injuries over his decades-long career performing stunts on set.

Ford has suffered various wounds filming daring action sequences, from tearing his ACL on Raiders of the Lost Ark to breaking his leg on The Force Awakens when he was hit by a hydraulic door. Though brutal, Ford has powered through the injuries and repeatedly returned to completing dangerous stunts on camera.

According to Daily Star, for years, rumors have circulated that Harrison Ford suffers from severe social anxiety. Fans speculated this based on his occasionally brusque demeanor during interviews over the years. But Ford finally set the record straight.

When asked about supposed social anxiety, Ford definitively denied having the disorder. “I don’t have a social anxiety disorder. I have an abhorrence of boring situations,” he clarified.

Ford admitted he felt “f***ing terrified” when he first started acting on stage, with knees shaking from fear. But he emphasized, “that’s not social anxiety. That’s being unfamiliar with the territory.”

While Ford has faced rumors about social anxiety, he has been open about some of his other health issues. The actor struggled with alcoholism earlier in his career, even getting arrested for drunk driving in the 1990s. He went to rehab and has been sober for many years now. More recently, Ford has also been honest about some of the aches and pains that come with aging and performing stunts.

He admits to struggling with back pain and advocates for finding solutions to chronic pain that don’t involve opioids. So although Ford denies suffering from social anxiety, he has candidly discussed other health conditions he has overcome and the normal process of aging. The star remains admirably resilient despite the wear and tear of decades as an action hero.

The star also shared that he is very “anti-therapy” for himself, though he has no issue with others using it.

“I know who the f*** I am at this point,” Ford asserted. While he understands therapy helps many, Ford stated, “I’m not anti-therapy for anybody — except for myself.”

So after years of speculation, Ford decisively debunked claims he has struggled with social anxiety or needed therapy. While stage fright marked his early career, Ford has outgrown it over decades in Hollywood. And he remains confident in his mental health at nearly 80 years old.

Ford has opened up about his daughter Georgia’s battle with epilepsy, a condition he has worked hard to raise awareness for. But when it comes to his own mind, Ford insists it’s as healthy as the rest of him despite his advancing age. After half a century in the spotlight, the legend seems assured of who he is.
