Hollywood icon Scarlett Johansson has had a streak of life-changing movies in her career. One of the most iconic ones is undoubtedly her role as the Black Widow in Marvel movies. Dating back from her first appearance as Natasha Romanoff in Iron Man 2, Johansson has gained a lot of appraisal from the audience for her representation of this iconic superhero. The conclusion of which was the 2021 Black Widow movie which along with immense love from viewers, resulted in a $379 million box office collection in.

In a historic move, it also earned her the credit as an executive producer for the movie, making her the first of the all-star Marvel cast to ever do so. However, that was not the only thing the movie gave her. Speaking in an interview Johansson explained that while shooting for Black Widow, she learned something about herself that changed her outlook on life completely.

Scarlett Johansson’s love for working out

The Jojo Rabbit star said in an episode of The Skinny Confidential Him and Her, how much she used to love working out. Apparently, her favorite was weight lifting, as she said, “I did weight lifting for a long time. That was my thing. I liked lifting heavy and low reps.” As a matter of fact, her 2019 Avengers: Endgame training routine consisted of 6 AM workouts with psychometrics and heavy-weight training such as 245-pound deadlifts and even push-ups with weight plates on her back.

Apart from that, she used to do intense cardio sessions like battle rope drills and sprinting. According to her, keeping in shape and working out excess energy really go a long way to improving her general well-being. She mentioned in that podcast that she thinks her, “go-to thing is that I try to do physical exercise whenever I can in the week because it helps my whole mental well-being,” and those sessions are what she considers her “me time” as busy as she is with schedules and two kids at home.

However, according to her, this routine changed since her last Marvel movie Black Widow. She realized that starting from then on she will have to go with something that is a little gentler on the body than the high-intensity fitness routine she has maintained all these years. And that something turns out to be Pilates.

Scarlett Johansson’s life-changing decision

Scarlett Johansson chose to turn to Pilates during those rough days of the Black Widow shooting and then never looked back. “I got to an age when I was actually training on ‘Black Widow,’ and you know, I think it’s hard to lift heavy weights at a certain point,” she explained in the podcast. She also added,

“You just, your body reacts in a different way than it [did] — the recovery is tough. And so I started doing Pilates to try to give myself a break from some of the heavy weightlifting and I just fell in love with it. And now I do that mostly.”

Well be it lifting or pilates, one thing that has remained constant is her love for working out and the peace it brings her. She noted how she doesn’t think that there are any shortcuts to being healthy at all. That is why she likes to do physical exercise as many days a week as she can. Being a mom of two kids it is impossible for her to maintain a strict schedule, she elaborated,

“I eat too late. I love to have a glass of wine at the end of the day . . . I’m not gonna be able to stick to some crazy diet unless somebody’s like making food for me. And that drives me crazy, too. I love to cook. I’m a very, like, casual person in that way.”

So she tries to nap when she can and keep herself moving to feel better about herself. Many people, including other celebrities, turned to gentler fitness routines like pilates during the COVID-19 pandemic and talked about the good results it has had in their lives. It seems the Lost in Translation star is no different.
