While there are several actors and celebrities in Hollywood, Matt Damon stands apart from them, not only because of his incredible acting prowess but also because of his humble and generous nature. From donating and working for charities to just being a kind and humble being, the actor has garnered a huge fan following across the world.
Perhaps it was this that made him even more famous when he spent his time in the quiet village of Dalkey in Ireland during the Covid-19 pandemic. Yet, one of his Irish neighbors, who also happens to be one of the biggest rockstars in the world, was incredibly jealous of the attention Damon received while living there.
Matt Damon’s Fame Greatly Annoyed One of the Biggest Rockstars in the World
Matt Damon‘s fame and acclaim might surely make a lot of other actors or celebrities jealous, but it came as a surprise when one of his neighbors in Ireland, Bono, the lead singer of U2, was reportedly irked by the attention Damon was receiving. Stuck in the little seaside Irish village of Dalkey, the actor was among the few lucky ones who got to spend his lockdown in one of the most beautiful places on the planet.
And while he is already a celebrity, the actor received some extra attention while staying there. Yet Bono (humorously) wasn’t all too happy with the attention the Jason Bourne star had been receiving and remarked to GQ,
“I’ve lived in this village, or next to this village, for 30 years—this f**ker is there for three months and they make him the king of Dalkey! I mean, it’s unbelievable… suddenly he’s got all this credibility that some of us just are incapable of ever achieving. He’s beloved! I mean, there’ll be a statue of him there. I don’t know what it was, and what he did. But I’m very annoyed about it. I’m not happy at all.”
However, despite the reported jealousy, Damon and Bono are actually pretty good friends and go way back to 2006. The actor even produced a documentary involving U2 recently and revealed how he lived within walking distance of the U2 rockstar back in Ireland (via The Late Show with Stephen Colbert).
Matt Damon and Bono are Good Friends
Matt Damon and Bono met back in 2006 when the Jason Bourne star got in touch with the U2 frontrunner regarding the latter’s water charity. Wanting to go to Africa for some charity work, it was Bono who helped Damon get into it and helped him get started. While Damon has been involved with a lot of charity work, his relationship with Bono seems to have only grown.
Even while in Ireland during the Covid-19 lockdowns, the two hung out together (via Spin1038). Bono meanwhile, revealed to GQ, his reflections on the star,
“I realized that he has the thing that the whole world wants: He has freedom. It’s the most intoxicating thing of all. And that, very few very famous people have. He’s free from self-consciousness. For a man who looks in the mirror for a living, he’s not even a little bit self-conscious, I’ve found. I mean, I think I’ve got freedom, but I’m self-conscious.”
Calling Damon not as good of a ‘celebrity’ in the nicest way possible, he stated that the actor is all about respect and that he’s just trying to be useful and helpful.
