Well, the actress is now attached to yet another role that is pretty similar to what she did in Netflix’s Wednesday. Although it is good for Jenna Ortega, it might also be harmful to her career in the long run. Ortega might just become a victim of the term ‘pigeonholed’ that so many actors and actresses had to go through during their careers.

Jenna Ortega Is A Part of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice

Starring in the 2022 series, Jenna Ortega changed the horror-mystery genre with her iconic performance as Wednesday Adams in the Netflix series Wednesday. The character of Wednesday Adams could be termed as a ‘goth person,’ and Ortega nailed the role perfectly.

Following the worldwide fame that she earned, Ortega revealed that she is a part of Beetlejuice 2 (or Beetlejuice Beetlejuice) and will be portraying the role of Astrid Deetz. Starring alongside Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder, the film is a direct sequel to the 1988 film.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, the actress talked about her on-screen character and how she is indeed a little bit different from the “bright and sunny” kids.

I think they instantly just fight whatever it is that their parent loves. So I think it’s a little bit of that. I’m not wearing pink and a cheerleader, but I am a little bit against my mom’s history or past. We butt heads quite a bit.

Although it might seem like it’s a good thing for Jenna Ortega to work alongside these notable stars, there is always a catch. The catch might not be noticeable now but it could affect the career of Ms. Ortega in the long run.

In the upcoming film Beetlejuice 2, Ortega’s character is described as a rebellious teenage daughter who doesn’t care for authority. Sounds familiar, right? Well, the role is quite similar to her performance on Wednesday and that is where things get a little messy. Opening a portal to the afterlife, her character calls upon the OG Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton), and chaos ensues within the Deetz family.

Jenna Ortega Could Get Pigeonholed In Hollywood

Finding fame for her role as Wednesday Adams, the series portrayed her as a goth girl in her teenage years who likes to break rules. Since she became so famous as the character, Ortega was offered a role in Beetlejuice 2.

Although Tim Burton is the director of both the Netflix series as well as the upcoming sequel, this trend of casting Ortega in ‘goth’ roles might become a problem. Similar to how Keanu Reeves was offered assassin-like roles because of the John Wick franchise, Ortega might just face a similar situation.

Having two roles to her name as a goth baddie in her teenage years, there is speculation that the actress might be offered similar types of roles in the future as well. Although it’s a good thing in the beginning, fans may start to lose interest in seeing a particular trend through the years.

It might also become boring for Jenna Ortega herself, who might wish to portray different types of characters or other genres. Starring alongside Keaton and Winona Ryder, Beetlejuice 2 is set for a release date of 6 September 2024 in theaters across the U.S.

On the other hand, Wednesday, which received a rating of 8.1/10 on IMDB and an average of 73% on Rotten Tomatoes, is available to stream on Netflix in the U.S.
