Arnold Schwarzenegger discusses his decision to skip The Expendables 4 after acting in the first three films in the series. In 2010, the first Expendables movie became a surprise box office success, grossing over $274M. Schwarzenegger appeared in the film for a brief time as Trench Mauser, and he returned for both sequels in a minor role.
Stars like Sylvester Stallone, Dolph Lundgren, and Jason Statham are expected to make a comeback in the fourth film from director Scott Waugh, although Schwarzenegger won’t be playing the same part.
In a brand-new interview with Parade, Schwarzenegger explains why Trench isn’t in the upcoming The Expendables 4 movie as the premiere date draws nearer. In the end, it appears like Schwarzenegger is simply finished with the franchise.
Arnold Schwarzenegger does not see any point in the Expendables franchise anymore
In a recent cover story interview with Parade, Arnold Schwarzenegger explained how he performed in the first Expandable movie as a favor for Sylvester Stallone and even though he’s done with the franchise, he wishes he and Sly will do something else together. Read his full quote below,
“It’s done and I’m not in it. I said, ‘You know what, we have done this and I’m out of it.’ And [Stallone] really understood. I did [the first Expendables] as a favor to Sly. I shot it on a Saturday for two hours quickly in a church with Bruce Willis. Sly said, ‘Oh, can you do Expendables 2?’ and I did that for a weekend. Then it was expanded for Expendables 3. And that was it. We’re going to do something together one day.”
The Expendables franchise follows the titular mercenary gang as they travel the world battling various villains. The Expendables 2 is the series’ greatest earner with $315 million, with the first three films having amassed over $809 million in total box office revenue.
What will The Expendables 4 be about?
In The Expendables 4, Stallone plays a supporting role alongside Statham’s Lee Christmas, the team’s knife expert who will go on to become the main focus of the film series. As the vengeful yet reflective Gunner Jensen from the previous trilogy, Dolph Lundgren returns, and Toll Road, the team’s deconstruction expert, is once more played by Couture. The Expendables 4 also features Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson and Megan Fox in unspecified roles.
