Halle Berry was convinced she lost her part in John Wick

Halle Berry played the role of Sofia Al-Azwar in Keanu Reeves‘ film John Wick 3. She was the manager of the Casablanca branch of the Continental Hotel. She assisted John Wick in finding The Elder when he was declared excommunicated.

In an interview with Extra TV given in 2019, she shared about the preparation for the John Wick movie,

“It’s hours and hours of stunt training, it’s gun training, it’s dog training, and then it’s just strength training on top of that. I wanted to be on the same level as [Keanu Reeves], I didn’t want to disappoint him, although I did get injured during rehearsal. I broke three ribs.”

“Chad hates when I bring this up, but it’s like a badge of honor for me. We don’t know how it happened really. I kept going for a little while with the broken ribs and then [Chad said] ‘Maybe we should stop.’”

Berry continued,

“What made me most happy is that when it happened, I thought ‘OK, I’m out of the movie. They’re going to replace me because the show has to go on.’ But to Chad’s credit, he waited for me. We pushed the production a little bit, and I got to come back.”

Stuntman Stahelski added,

“Not a chance that I was going to give up on Halle Berry.”

John Wick 4 was released in 2023, which was a commercial hit, providing $425 million worldwide.

However, Berry had a very similar incident in the past while shooting for Cloud Atlas.

Halle Berry has a similar incident in her 2012 movie with Tom Hanks

Halle Berry and Tom Hanks worked together in the 2012 film Cloud Atlas, where they played several characters. The film was directed by the Wachowski sisters. The story follows the stars going through multiple time zones. Berry was very excited to work alongside the acting legend Tom Hanks. However, one little incident almost cost her the role in his film.

As per reports, the Die Another Day actress broke her foot during the shooting. She shared in an interview with Observer,

But Halle Berry was left sentimental when she realized what happened after the incident. She recalled,

“I never was so touched, and never had I cried so hard when they came to me and said, ‘No, it’s just a bump in the road, we’re going to fix this.’ I couldn’t believe it because so many actors and so much scheduling had gone on for years to make this all work, and they were willing to say, ‘We’ll throw it all in the wind, we want you to stay on this movie, and we’re going to work it out.’”

Cloud Atlas grossed a total of $130.5 million worldwide but was critically acclaimed for the screenplay.
