Katherine Heigl starred alongside Seth Rogen in Judd Apatow’s highly successful romantic comedy Knocked Up. The plot revolves around two characters played by the two stars whose lives drastically change after they engage in a one-night stand. The film was highly acclaimed and was also a huge success at the box office.

However, some critics pointed out the sexist nature of the film and how Heigl’s character Alison is presented in the film. After the film came out, Heigl made a startling revelation about the film where she criticized the bland characterization of her character and how the film made her a ‘shrew’. She told Vanity Fair in 2008,

“It was a little sexist. It paints women as shrews, as humorless and uptight, and it paints the men as lovable, goofy, fun-loving guys. It exaggerated the characters, and I had a hard time with it, on some days. I’m playing such a b***h; why is she being such a killjoy? Why is this how you’re portraying women? Ninety-eight percent of the time it was an amazing experience, but it was hard for me to love the movie.”

Apatow and Rogen were both baffled by Heigl’s comments. While Apatow spoke against her comments (via Way Back Machine), Rogen felt betrayed by his co-star whom he enjoyed with on the film (via The Hollywood Reporter). Heigl’s comments attracted a lot of criticism from fans and it derailed her career, creating a negative impact on her image as an actress.

“I have no bad feelings towards her at all. I was never that mad honestly. Honestly, it was so long ago and I’ve damaged my brain so badly in the few last years I have a hard time recalling what it’s about or who was supposed to be mad at who.”

On the work front, the actress is set to star alongside John Travolta in a musical romantic-comedy film titled That’s Amore!. Rogen will voice Pumba in The Lion King prequel film Mufasa: The Lion King and he will also return in the second season of Platonic alongside Rose Byrne.
