Known for starring in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, Dave Bautista is among some of the Hollywood actors who transitioned from a sports star to a movie star. Starting his acting career with several guest appearances, he landed his first acting job in a TV series called Smallville. However, despite staring in the classic TV show, Bautista had no aspirations to pursue an acting career and described it as a “gig” he got through WWE.

However, he returned to acting, and things took a turn for good after he landed the role of Drax the Destroyer in the MCU. The wrestler-turned-actor has since given several versatile performances in several critically acclaimed movies. And he is now looking forward to the next step in his career.

The Guardians of the Galaxy Star Wants Transition in His Career

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is studded with some of the best actors, including Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, Dave Bautista, and many others, with the latter being not only one of the best actors but also one of the best filmmakers in the Industry.

And following in his co-star’s footsteps, Dave Bautista is also aspiring to venture into the world of directing. During an interview with SFX Magazine, via Contactmusic, the Spectre actor shared that he slowly wants to take the director’s seat and wants to make at least one film or a small drama.

That’s kind of been my goal for years. I’m slowly working my way behind the camera,” he said. The actor shared that he would love to opt for filmmaking in the future, claiming that his time on the screen is over as he is already in his 50s.

“And so I hope to have a future in this. I want to be able to put stuff on screen and not necessarily blockbuster films,” he said before adding that making a movie or most likely a small drama has been on his bucket list. And learning more about filmmaking was also the reason he joined Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead.

Dave Bautista Wanted to Learn From Zack Snyder

Dave Bautista joined the cast of Zack Snyder’s 2021 post-apocalyptic film Army of the Dead. Featuring him as the lead alongside an ensemble cast, the movie follows a group of mercenaries who plan a casino heist amid a zombie apocalypse.

The Guardians of the Galaxy star has shared that he turned down the offer for James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad for Snyder’s Amry of the Dead. “I had to call James, and I told him, ‘It breaks my heart because as a friend, I want to be there with you, but professionally, this is the smart decision for me,” he told Digital Spy in an interview.

Although he wasn’t interested in starring in the movie initially, he accepted the offer after reading the screenplay. He has also shared that he really wanted to work with the Man of Steel director and wanted to learn from him.

“I also really wanted to work with him because I wanted to learn from him. I wanted to see what he sees visually as a director,” he said as per Contactmusic. Amry of the Dead received positive reviews upon its release and is considered one of the best films of the 54-year-old actor.
