Following the release of Avengers: Endgame, only a few Marvel Studios productions managed to shock the audiences. However, Tom Hiddleston’s Marvel series Loki seems to have the capability to create intense feelings of shock and awe. The bold episodes of Loki season 2 even served as a promising successor to Endgame. But what’s most surprising for the audiences is how Marvel proposes different variants of threats in different projects.
After MCU established Thanos as a threat in the Avengers movies, Loki season 2 showed how He Who Remains is a terrifying villain. And shockingly Jonathan Majors played the role of He Who Remains in the series, followed by his role of Kang. But now rumors suggest that Tom Hiddleston might replace Majors and become the Protector of Multiverse.
Kevin Wright Considered Making He Who Remains a Loki Variant
MCU has often tried establishing big new villains but has always failed to do so until Thanos was posed as the greatest threat to mankind in the Avengers movies. But again, ever since the release of Avengers: Endgame, Marvel has failed to show notable villains as a threat, until the release of the Loki series.
In Disney’s Loki, featuring Tom Hiddleston, Marvel Studios successfully managed to show how He Who Remains is a terrifying villain. Apparently, the power hierarchy suggests that Thanos might have acquired the Infinity Stones, but He Who Remains was controlling the most powerful entity in the multiverse, the TVA.
Thus, as Tom Hiddleston’s Loki was the first MCU production to introduce a new villain, producer Kevin Wright wanted to expand on the multiverse’s threat. Proposing different theories, Loki producers also mentioned how they even considered making He Who Remains a Loki variant, while speaking with Den of Geek.
“We just thought [He Who Remains] would be a great title for the last man standing in the multiversal war. In the writers’ room, all ideas are on the table, and there were conversations about what if Loki was He Who Remains.”
Tom Hiddleston’s Loki Might Become Protector of Multiverse
But eventually, the conversation about making He Who Remains a Loki variant didn’t get very far, as the team felt, “there are compelling aspects to it, it makes the universe feel small”. Thus, eventually, Jonathan Majors emerged as He Who Remains in Loki, who later played the role of Kang the Conqueror in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
Although Jonathan Majors‘ appearance as both He Who Remains and Kang the Conqueror in two different Marvel Studios productions caused chaos, producers felt it was the right thing to do. But, recent footage sparked curiosity among fans about He Who Remains. With two episodes remaining in the thrilling 2nd season of Loki, Marvel teased unreleased trailer footage that granted glimpses of Loki’s return to He Who Remains’ Citadel at the End of Time.
This particular teaser stirred curiosity about how the narrative will evolve, which started a rumor that Tom Hiddleston’s Loki might reportedly replace Jonathan Majors as He Who Remains and become Protector of Multiverse. Recently a post appeared on X, shared by MyTimeToShineHello, where Loki was portrayed as He Who Remains. This post sparked debates on X and fans are looking for confirmation while wondering if Marvel would make this major sacrifice move.
