However, in a stunning turn of events, her father refused to pay the pop star a cent, while the singer is obligated to pay her father’s legal bills.
Despite Britney Spears’ conservatorship with her father ending in 2021, the duo butted heads, all this while. But finally, the fight regarding Jamie Spears’ legal fees and his management of the singer’s finances during the conservatorship ended with the pop star having to pay more than $2M for her father’s hefty bills.
Britney Spears Settled Legal Dispute With Her Father
Britney Spears had been under her father, Jamie Spears’ strict conservatorship from 2008 to 2021, due to her severe public meltdowns. In 2021, although Spears finally found her freedom as the clause ended, she and her estranged father continued their feud. Eventually, the legal dispute ended in 2024, after the duo agreed to settle.
According to TMZ, the settlement was filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, where the terms of the agreement over the pair’s ongoing legal dispute were not disclosed. Although the court had previously terminated the popstar’s 13-year conservatorship in late 2021, they seemingly agreed over Jamie Spears’ demands for his daughter to cover over $2M worth of his legal fees.
It has been revealed that since Jamie Spears and the singer were in a fight regarding his legal fees and the amount that was needed to manage her finances during the conservatorship, the pop star’s father is now seeking approval from the court for more than $2M. He has presented the sum as a result of hiring lawyers during the 13-year conservatorship as well as his current lawyer’s hefty bills.
Britney Spears is Infuriated to Pay Over $2M to Her Father
In the end, it has been revealed that Britney Spears successfully settled her legal dispute with her father but she had to pay the $2M that was demanded of her. According to sources, although the case has quietly settled, the singer is infuriated by her lawyer’s failure which cost her to pay over $2M.
“Britney is furious. Her lawyer Mathew Rosengart, assured her she had a solid case, but in the end, she’s paying Jamie’s legal bills which we’re told amount to more than $2 million.” TMZ reported.
Britney Spears has already paid Mathew Rosengart an estimated amount of $4M to lead the case and help her win. But now, the singer’s $4M not only went in vain, but she is also having to pay $2M separately to her father in settlement. Spears appears to be deep in the hole over the case.
After losing the settlement case, Mathew Rosengart alleged that the singer’s father “mishandled and fleeced the estate while he was her conservator for 13 years”. Despite being clear that he got every expenditure approved by the conservatorship judge, so everything was running smooth, Rosengart insinuated Jamie Spears of treachery for seeking $2M separately, all over again.
Eventually, it seems, although the legal case over financial settlement was closed, Britney Spears lost the battle spectacularly.
