Indiana Jones is a renowned archeologist with a penchant for getting caught in the middle of something of great value to history. Some would say he is the inspiration for Nathan Drake of the Uncharted series, a PlayStation exclusive, and it made sense for Xbox to produce a game as a direct response.

Microsoft was in the flow state and Runner’s High went on an aggressive acquisition spree to bolster its ranks for quality games and content output. The gaming community assumed this was when the gaming company would set foot with first-party exclusives but this was not the case.

As with all the classic films, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle promises memorable antagonists with similar ambitions.

The gaming community is eager to see what Machine Games has been working on and how this original adventure ties into the live-action films. Microsoft is among the leaders of the gaming industry and decided to share the few exclusives it has with other rival companies.

It was an odd business decision, especially with the company’s lack of quality first-party titles. The idea of sharing spiraled out of control to the point it also dragged into its biggest game yet: Indiana Jones and The Great Circle.

The gaming community anticipated that this project would remain an exclusive on the Xbox platform and be used as a bullet against naysayers; however, it appears that the game is a timed exclusive and will make its way to PlayStation 5 in a few months.

The game will be released on the Xbox Series X/S, and PC later this year during the Holiday season and fans were caught off guard by the PlayStation 5 announcement. Perhaps the executives of Microsoft believe porting the game to a rival platform with a player base that is more inclined to buy games rather than play them on a service like Game Pass will cover the cost.

The decision to port the game a few months after the release on the intended platform convinced the gaming community that Microsoft had no idea what it was doing with its assets. Phil Spencer confirmed that there will be no other first-party Xbox games that will be ported to rival platforms and it would seem that Spencer lied straight to the face of the fans.

Perhaps Microsoft doubled back and reconsidered what locking this game to one console platform meant for the future. The company wants to permanently abolish the idea of first-party exclusivity and let players play any game they want regardless of platform availability.

The community was initially convinced that Microsoft would not gamble with high-profile first-party IPs like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and Starfield, and would prefer to keep them on one platform.

It appears that is not the case and would counter PlayStation and Nintendo’s greatest asset high-quality exclusives. If Microsoft is comfortable sharing its biggest games, no game would be safe from being ported.

Fans are concerned about the lineup for the Xbox platform and whether these games will be available on other platforms, it would give them little to no reason to invest in an Xbox. There is no telling if future games will have the same treatment.
