Gears of War is one of the most popular franchises exclusive to Xbox. The franchise began in 2006 and has seen numerous installments since then. However, the latest mainline game in the series dates back to 2019.
Since then, various Xbox exclusives have disappeared from the relevance compass because of their boundless mediocrity. Xbox doesn’t seem to have an answer for exclusive titles released on its arch-rival, Sony’s console lineup. However, as per some industry insiders, this might change, and the Gears of War franchise might see another installment reasonably soon.
Two industry insiders on the Kinda Funny XCast think that Gears of War 6 might be announced soon
The rumor originated from the Kinda Funny XCast’s latest episode, “Xbox’s Unclear Future.” In the episode, the host SnowBikeMike asks the guest, Jeff Grub, a reputed industry insider, and Parris Lilly, another industry fellow, both seem to agree that it is possible.
However, both also stated that nothing was confirmed and that the individuals quoted no plausible source. So, readers are advised to take this news with a pinch of salt. The conversation around the franchise began at the 1 hour, 41-second mark of the podcast, which is embedded below. This is when Paris stated that it could just be teased like the upcoming Fable was teased in 2020:
Jeff Grubb, known for his accurate predictions and legitimate rumors, also seemed to nod with Parris Lilly. Additionally, the most notable piece of information shared by the two individuals is that the game may be teased this Summer and might be launched as a next-gen exclusive.
Gears of War 6 might be Xbox’s first win in a long, long time
Xbox has not been in a state where it can even pose competition to Sony’s PlayStation 5, as the latter can not stop winning battle after battle. On the other end, the former has sales that are plummeting in regions like Europe, and its most valued offering, the Game Pass, is being looked down upon by publishers.
It has made desperate attempts to capture the market with the infamous Activision deal, which has materialized, but the publisher’s titles are nowhere to be found on Game Pass. No notable exclusives, no differentiator, and a less robust ecosystem are things that Xbox is currently known for.
All of these factors might take quite some time to be rectified, and it isn’t known if that will happen in this generation of consoles. However, an old-fashioned way of attracting consumers and giving them incentives is to take Sony’s approach and create polished exclusives. This is where Gears of War can help.
What do you think? Do you think Gears of War 6 might be the lifeline that might help Spencer’s company survive the market a little longer? Or do you think Xbox is dead and buried already? We would love to know your thoughts in the comment section below.
