After Insomniac Games got hacked back in December of last year, the studio suffered a tremendous amount of information leaked on Reddit and other places. Spider-Man: The Great Web would have been a live-service game with multiple seasons and many content regarding the multiverse and versions of different Spidey villains.

This title could even affect the sales of Marvel’s Spider-Man 3. The multiplayer game will have much content with different villains and alternative universes; this may have been one of the reasons for the cancellation of the game.

One of the most important developers in the PlayStation Studios family is Insomniac Games. This studio has made three of Marvel’s Spider-Man games and the last, Ratchet and Clank. The reputation of the studio is unquestionable, but after the hack, other projects of the studio were revealed. Like the canceled multiplayer Spider-Man game, a 15-minute PowerPoint presentation leaked with a lot of information and all the content from this title.

This PowerPoint presentation has a whole plan for Spider-Man: The Great Web. Raids, turf wars, and chapters with stories in every new season of the title. The story of the game has Madame Web in the center, helping you to travel across the Spider-Verse and helping other Spider-Men to defeat incredible threats.

This kind of live-service content would have overshadowed the possible narrative of Marvel’s Spider-Man 3. Insomniac Games could have compared the amount of income that could have been received from another title in this franchise or the live-service numbers, so this may be the reason to cancel the project.

The amount of content that Spider-Man: The Great Web could have would have been crashing with Marvel’s Spider-Man franchise. The game promises seasonal content raids and a lot of stories from the multiverse of Spider-Man. You can even choose your own origin story and your Spider-companions. Insomniac Games didn’t decide if the game was free-to-play or a priced game like Helldivers 2

Fans started a petition for Insomniac Games to revive this project. The studio has not said absolutely anything about this game; this could mean that the project is totally dead, and you may never see a playable version. Spider-Man: The Great Web was like a better version of Fallout 76, but it will never be launched.

What are your thoughts about the plot of Spider-Man: The Great Web complicating things for other entries in the franchise?

I'm a big fan of movies and videogames in general. I really love Pokémon and Godzilla. One of my favorite games is The Last of Us, Part II. A compelling and well-written story is always welcome.
