Ever since Superman: Legacy was announced, it got the fans excited because James Gunn would be keeping a close eye on the script of the movie. Tom King, the DC Studios writer stated that he is excited to work alongside Gunn as he will be leading the team.
Superman: Legacy would be the first film under James Gunn’s reboot of the DCU, that would showcase a younger version of Clark Kent, who is struggling to balance his life as a new journalist, and being a superhero. But it seems that Gunn wants the movie to be flawless as he would be working behind the camera to direct the new Superman movie.
The reaction of the Fans
Superman: Legacy was presented during the huge announcement held in January, where James Gunn, alongside, Peter Safran talked about the movies and TV shows that would be a part of their rebooted franchise, titled Gods and Monsters. During the now-private YouTube interview with ComicPop, Tom King talked about his experience working with DC Studios and how excited he is to work with the Suicide Squad director for the movie. This information left the DC fans unimpressed for several reasons and they went on to Twitter to vent out their opinions.

A user stated that the Co-CEO is preying on Warner Bros.
@JamesGunn has been planning on writing AND directing a new Superman for years now. He's preying on the gullible.

Another fan tweeted how James Gunn doing everything in the film would lead to the downfall of DC Studios.
The fall of DC begins

A fan was glad that Gunn would be directing the new Superman movie as his directing style would go well with the movie, but they are worried the Co-CEO doesn’t include too much humor in the movie because The Man of Tomorrow is a hushed and deep character.
His directing style can work with Superman, I just hope he doesn't put GOTG1 GOTG2 TSS and Peacemaker level comedy. Superman isn't a character who can work with his comedy style, it needs to be a little more serious and calm compared to his other films

Another user wonders if there are a lack of directors as James Gunn is directing and writing every DC movie.
It seems like Gunn is gonna have to write every single DC movie and show and direct all of them. Does nobody want to work with them?

Another fan stated how the news was not surprising because everyone knew this would happen.
Is this news when we all knew it was going to happen?

James Gunn is an extraordinary filmmaker, and his previous DC projects were immensely successful because, unlike other DC films, his films had humor which made the film and TV Series an entertaining watch. However, unlike the characters in his DC films, Superman is not a funny character, and it would be intriguing to see how the Peacemaker creator would fit some comedy in the movie.
Details About James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy
Even though major details about Superman: Legacy are kept hidden from the audience, the Co-CEO of DC Studios describes his version of Superman as “a big ol’ galoot.”
Many people believe that the film would be loosely based on Grant Morrison’s All-Star Superman. However, James Gunn did state that his version is not an adaptation of Grant Morrison’s work. The director also stated that there will be no son of The Last Kryptonian.
“It keeps getting repeated but I never said that. All I ever said was Superman was younger than in his forties and Batman MIGHT be a couple years older than Superman.”
Fans would be surprised to know that the boss of DC Studios was offered a Superman film before but he chose to go forward with The Suicide Squad.
“A few years later I saw how to tackle Superman [and] took it on.”
Even though the cast members for the film is not announced yet, the tiny details being shared by the director is making it one of the most highly anticipated superhero films.
Superman: Legacy will be in theaters on 11th July 2025.
