Fortnite might be getting rid of its ‘Zero Build’ mode, a way to play where you fight more and build less. Players asked for this feature, and at first, it was meant to be temporary, but it stuck around for good. Some players are sad about this possible change, but others think it’s a return to how Fortnite used to be. However, this switch could be tricky for players who like simpler battle royal games.
Fortnite Chapter 5: The Future of Building Mode
The building feature in Fortnite has always been a defining aspect of its popularity and appeal. It distinguished the game from battle royale titles by incorporating construction elements that brought depth and complexity to the gameplay. However, with the rise of the ‘Zero Build Mode,’ some players have debated whether it overly intensifies competition by removing the need to gather materials and construct forts during combat situations.
With Chapter 5 approaching there is some excitement, among gamers regarding the removal of the ‘Zero Build Mode’. The discussion gained traction after HYPEX, a source for Fortnite updates mentioned on Twitter that this mode was facing challenges in functioning across most of the Chapter 1 map. This led to speculations about its elimination, in a game update.
While Fortnite’s development team at Epic Games has yet to issue an official confirmation regarding this matter, the gaming community has been abuzz with opinions and concerns. In response to HYPEX’s tweet, many players voiced their disappointment over the potential loss of the ‘Zero Build Mode.’
Also I personally think that they might even temporarily disable Zero Build too next season because they can't make it work smoothly on most of the Chapter 1 map. It's only a month-long season anyway, it's not a permanent thing.

Some players have shared their worries that removing it could discourage players who were initially attracted because of its gunplay, without the complexities of building. On the hand, there are also players who’re excited about the idea of going back to original gameplay and supporting a battle royale experience focused solely on building. HYPEX also mentioned that tactical sprinting and climbing were temporarily disabled in Chapter 4 Season 5. There are plans for their return, in Chapter 5.
The good news for fans is that Chapter 5 is scheduled to be released in 2023. This means that players might still have a month or two to enjoy the ‘Zero Build Mode’ if it does get removed.
However, it’s understandable why some players are concerned about the loss of gamers. Learning how to build in Fortnite can be challenging for players, those who are used to other battle royale games like Apex Legends and PUBG, where the main focus is on collecting resources such, as weapons, armor, and health items and engaging in intense combat.
As players eagerly anticipate updates, from Epic Games they are thrilled to see the return of Fortnite’s map. With the game running on Unreal Engine 5 players can enjoy an immersive and intricate map as they work towards achieving the highly sought-after ‘Victory Royale.’ The ongoing discussion, about whether building should be removed or kept in Fortnite has sparked debate and speculation undoubtedly influencing the game’s direction.
The debate, over whether Fortnite’s more enjoyable with or without building is a matter of preference and there isn’t a clear-cut answer. Some gamers lean towards the gunplay-focused gameplay provided by modes without building while others appreciate the thrill and ingenuity that comes with constructing structures. The decision on this matter holds consequences, for the landscape of Fortnite and its devoted community of players.
