John Krasinski has led a thoroughly successful career as an actor, with The Office, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, and A Quiet Place film series being globally considered some of his best performances to date. But despite being such an awesome actor, the 44-year-old has been focusing more on creating and taming projects lately; even more than starring in them in iconic roles.
As it turns out, the real reason behind this is the love of his life and the fan-favorite Hollywood actress, all in one: Emily Blunt. Apparently, it was Blunt who told him to jump into the directing field as well, and ever since then, Krasinski has been sticking to it more than he has been to acting. That said, it sounds like the real reason he is so focused on directing is actually his wife!
Emily Blunt is the Reason John Krasinski is Doing So Much Directing Now
Ever since he starred as Jim Halpert in The Office, John Krasinski has transformed into one of fans’ most favorite actors of all time. In fact, his acting chops are so brilliant that after this series, he even went on to score multiple other superhit projects across various genres, including his cameo as Reed Richards in MCU’s Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness.
However, as of late, the actor has been seen focusing more on filmmaking than starring in them. And, as it turns out, the real reason behind this is his wife, Emily Blunt. This revelation came during a recent roasting interview with Kid Gloves, where the actor himself jokingly admitted at first, “I know I’m not a good actor.”
This happened after he was asked sarcastically by Luna [via ScreenCrush/YT]:
How come you’re doing so much directing now? Is it because you don’t think you are a good actor anymore?
At the same time, he also revealed how it was Blunt who helped him discover this other incredible talent of his. Krasinski said:
You know what it was? Emily was the first person to tell me to direct. That’s a true story.
This happened with his 2016 rom-com The Hollars when The Fall Guy actress “forced” him to go ahead and try his hand at directing this film.
There’s a movie called ‘The Hollars’, and she said you should go direct that movie because I was gonna be in it as an actor. And so she forced me to direct that movie, and now, here we are.
Well, for whatever it’s worth, it seems like a major part of the credit to the 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi actor‘s shift of professional priorities getting more inclined to the directing side now goes to none other than Blunt, who encouraged him to tell all the stories and immense talent he had been keeping to himself for so long.
Ryan Reynolds Feels John Krasinski is “Very Good” at Directing
While it may have been Blunt who “forced” her husband to start writing and directing as well, it seems like it is Ryan Reynolds who is encouraging him to continue on this new path he has decided for himself. This comes after the actor heaped praises on his IF co-star over his commendable filmmaking chops.
As per what Reynolds admitted during the same interview:
He is also very good at it, just to be totally, completely candid right here. […] Yeah, he’s a very, very good director and a very good writer.
Swooning over this enough, Hollywood? Well, you should, because not everyone has a wife and friend as spectacularly encouraging as Emily Blunt and Ryan Reynolds!
You can stream The Hollars on Prime Video.
