Metroid Prime 4 is one of Nintendo’s most anticipated titles. Though the game was announced back in 2017 at E3, its development has been slow, and fans of the series have been waiting for more news for quite a while now. Metroid fans will be happy to know that in their latest financial report, Nintendo included Metroid Prime 4, which could signal a release on the Nintendo Switch.

Nintendo has been having an excellent year so far. Sales and profits have increased drastically since the release of games like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom as well as their venture into the movie industry with The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

The big thing to take away from Nintendo’s latest financial report is that not only is Metroid Prime 4 listed among the upcoming games, but all the listed upcoming games are exclusively being made for the Nintendo Switch. The list includes many games with temporary titles, and that includes Metroid Prime 4. The game is also listed with a TBA release date. The full list is as follows:

  • Detective Pikachu Returns (October 6, 2023)
  • Super Mario Bros. Wonder (October 20, 2023)
  • WarioWare: Move It! (November 3, 2023)
  • Super Mario RPG (November 11, 2023)
  • Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon (Temporary Title, 2024)
  • Princess Peach Game (Temporary Title, 2024)
  • Metroid Prime 4 (Temporary Title, TBA)

What’s surprising is that the game is still listed for release on the Nintendo Switch, despite the fact that the console’s lifespan has almost been completed. There’s also the news that Nintendo’s new console (perhaps the Nintendo Switch 2) will be released next year. Many thought that the game may be releasing on the new console, but this report suggests otherwise.

Metroid Prime 4’s Troubled Development Lead Some to Believe that the Game May Not Release on the Switch

Metroid Prime 4 May Finally Be Close to Release

Ever since its announcement at E3 2017, Nintendo hasn’t been the most vocal about Metroid Prime 4. It was reported by Eurogamer that the game was originally being developed by Bandai Namco Studios Singapore. But Nintendo ended up restarting the development of the game, as the company did not think that the project reached the standards it was seeking in a new entry in the Metroid Prime series.

In 2019, development was officially restarted with the help of the original development studio that made the Metroid Prime games. Ever since then, there has not been any official news or announcements regarding the game, leading some to believe that either the game was in development hell or had just been shifted to Nintendo’s next console. What was shocking was that Metroid Prime 4 was also not mentioned during the Nintendo Direct Show in June.

It’s possible that Nintendo plans to announce the game near the end of the year and release it in 2024 for the Nintendo Switch as well as the new console. Nevertheless, this is exciting news. It’s only a matter of time before we get some form of announcement regarding the game.
