When Doctor Strange messed with the multiverse, he had to be held accountable. This is why, in the post-credit scene for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, a strange lady whipped him away to “fix” what he had done. The strange lady was played by none other than Charlize Theron who made her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut with the Doctor Strange sequel.

Now, Charlize Theron is no stranger to huge, successful films. Given the actress’ merit in the entertainment industry, fans have been wondering just how important of a role she is playing in the MCU. While we know that Charlize Theron is playing Clea, that’s about all the information we have. And it looks like the same goes for the actress, who doesn’t know where her character’s story is headed next, as she has not received a call from the studios regarding that.

While there is a lot of excitement about Charlize Theron making her way into the MCU, there is also an equal amount of bewilderment. Questions about her role in the superhero universe can only be answered by future appearances of the character. However, even Theron doesn’t know when that will happen.

During a chat with journalist Josh Horowitz, Theron was asked about her Marvel future and the actress stated that she hasn’t gotten any calls from the studio about a return and wondered if that was bad news for the character.

“I don’t. No, I haven’t gotten a call. I’ve not gotten a– Is that bad? Is that bad? Is that bad? No, I’m not lying… I haven’t gotten a call. Is that bad?”

You can watch the full exchange here:

In the comics, Clea becomes the ruler of the Dark Dimension. In Death of Doctor Strange Vol 14, Clea called herself the “sorcerer supreme of the Dark Dimension.” Not only that, but she played quite an important role in Doctor Strange’s life and if the comics are any indication, Theron’s story is going to be a super entertaining arc. While the actress claims she doesn’t know anything about her Marvel future, she could either be telling the truth or pulling an Andrew Garfield on us.

During an interview with Vanity Fair, the writer of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Michael Waldron talked about Clea’s part in the future of the MCU and in Doctor Strange’s life. First of all, he revealed that Theron “had been cast in the film even before they had settled on the ending.” He then opened up about Theron’s role in the superhero universe.

“I was thrilled to introduce her as Clea. Clea has been Strange’s counterpart in the comic for a long time. She is an amazing sorcerer. She’s also his great love; she’s his wife at one point. We had to conclude his story with Christine Palmer…and at the end of that Strange walks away with this wisdom. He’s been able to face his fears and not be afraid to love somebody or let somebody love him. I think that’s the perfect place for him to be mentally to finally meet Clea, who is gonna be a really important figure in his life moving forward.”

It sure looks like the writers are bringing the romantic part of the two’s relationship straight into the MCU from the comics. It will be interesting to see where the duo’s adventure takes them!
