While the two are yet to clash or even meet in the MCU, the recent Deadpool & Wolverine makes the event possible as they enter the same franchise. Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine featured in the film and made his MCU debut after Fox was acquired by Disney in 2019.

The film’s multiple Easter Eggs have been a subject of analysis by countless fans. One fan pointed out that the musical cue for Wolverine putting on the mask in the film was similar to the theme of Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man getting his suit on again in Spider-Man 3, hinting at a possible face-off between the two most popular Marvel characters.

Some, however, pointed out that the conclusion was a stretch and mentioned that the musical cue in Deadpool & Wolverine was from Madonna’s Like a Prayer, which acted as a theme for the film.

With the upcoming Avengers: The Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, the possibilities for Marvel characters are endless. Chief Kevin Feige has crafted the multiverse with so many possibilities that if the fans demand enough, it might just happen. With both Tobey Maguire and Hugh Jackman in the MCU now, the clash is very much a possibility.

And this was not just a fan-dream but was also endorsed by Wolverine himself, Hugh Jackman. Industry insider It’s My Time To Shine Hello reported back in March that Jackman had demanded that a future appearance in the franchise should include a face-off between him and Tobey Maguire.

Maguire himself has been vocal about his eagerness to return to the franchise after his appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home. The actor said to Marvel.com,

I love these films and I love all of the different series. If these guys called me and said, ‘Would you show up tonight to hang out and goof around?’ or ‘Would you show up to do this movie or read a scene or do a Spider-Man thing?’, it would be a ‘yes!’ Because why wouldn’t I want to do that?

With Robert Downey Jr., too set to return as Doctor Doom, who has also faced off with both Spider-Man and the X-Men, fans might just witness history in the upcoming Secret Wars.

Deadpool & Wolverine is currently in cinemas.
