The crew faced several difficulties while filming the scene, the main problems were bird strikes and wind resistance. In order to capture Cruise’s expressions, a wind-resistant custom frame was built for the camera and mounted onto the left wing of the plane.

Cruise also had trouble keeping his eyes open in the presence of fast wind and runway particles. In order to tackle this problem, a special lens was designed by his eye specialist that covered his entire eyeball. Director Christopher McQuarrie was worried that the actor might panic suddenly, but Tom Cruise managed to stay cool.
