Charlie Sheen’s ex-wife, Denise Richards, who played the Bond Girl role against Pierce Brosnan in The World is Not Enough (1999), may sound like a follower of the patriarchy, but again, the lady comes from a rather bitter experience. During the filming of the $361 million Bond movie, Richards was “panned” for her role as scientist Dr. Christmas Jones, wherein she sported shorts and a midriff-baring vest.

Denise Richards Was Left Heartbroken After Bond Gril Reviews

Denise Richards, known for playing the s-xy trophy wife characters in most films, finally got the opportunity to play a “character that has depth” and get into“something fun and challenging” with her series Paper Empire. But before getting there, Charlie Sheen’s ex-wife continued to remain quiet about a lot of things she experienced in Hollywood.

For instance, her longtime silence over the criticism for playing Bond Girl against Pierce Brosnan in the 1999 Bond film, The World Is Not Enough, broke decades after. During an interview about her upcoming series, the Wild Things actress opened up about how she was panned for playing scientist Dr. Christmas Jones. Recalling the criticism, she said:

“It broke my heart that people were making fun of me. ‘Oh, really? You’re wearing shorts and you’re a nuclear scientist?’”

She responded:

“I’m playing a Bond girl, if I wore a lab coat and pants and a suit, then [fans] would have been upset, like, ‘Okay, why isn’t she looking like a s-xy Bond girl?’

Back in 2012, she revealed that “there are not too many scientists who run around in little shorts with a tattoo,” and people made fun of her when the movie came out. Richards was criticized for a long time for donning shorts and a midriff-baring vest. Denise Richards was chosen as Worst Supporting Actress at the 1999 Razzie Awards

Denise Richards Believes Male Bond Makes More Sense Than A Female Bond

Denise Richards underwent a lot of bitter experiences in her career, especially during the filming of Wild Things, but unlike other celebrities, she preferred to remain quiet. But again, she is thankful that the changed times have allowed women to have “more of a voice” today. While her silence may sound controversial, Richards doesn’t really care about the narrative.

Richards, who is more inclined towards feminine roles, believes that a male James Bond is more suitable for the $7.5 billion franchise. After Daniel Craig decided to hang his 007 tuxedo, the hunt for a potential James Bond continues to exist. No Time To Die star Lashana Lynch does give tough competition to an all-male candidate list.

Richards still has a logical answer on who deserves to carry on the legacy of James Bond. When asked if it was time for a female Bond, she said:

“Definitely a male Bond, I’m sorry. And I might get a lot of flack for this. But the fact of the matter is the Bond franchise was based on a book franchise and Bond was male in the books and I believe [they should] continue with that.

I do, and people may shit on me for it, but I believe it. They could do a spin-off where a Bond girl becomes the female Bond. But I think James Bond is James Bond.”

Richards remained quiet about her negative experiences with Hollywood in the late 1990s and early 2000s. As the speculations continue to grow, Aaron Taylor-Johnson is one of the top choices for the iconic character. Other top preferences include Tom Hardy, Henry Cavill, Idris Elba, and Rege-Jean Page.

The World Is Not Enough (1999) is streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
