English actor Daniel Radcliffe has become a global pop culture icon, and the credit genuinely goes to his $9.5B Harry Potter franchise. Playing the role of the boy who lived, Radcliffe is now commonly known for his titular role as Harry Potter. However, while fans found it cool of him to portray JK Rowling’s lead hero, the actor was apparently embarrassed about it.
Appearing on TooFab, to promote The Lost City alongside his co-star Sandra Bullock, Daniel Radcliffe recalled what was his career’s most embarrassing role. And surprisingly the actor noted his $95.6M Harry Potter role as the most uncool thing.
Daniel Radcliffe Was Embarrassed Of Playing a School Boy
Working in the 2022 film, The Lost City, alongside Sandra Bullock, Channing Tatum, and a host of others, Daniel Radcliffe appeared on TooFab to promote his movie with Bullock. Thus, during the interview, the actors were each asked about the most uncool or embarrassing roles of their careers. And surprisingly, no one was prepared for Radcliffe’s reply.
Shocking his fans with his answer, Daniel Radcliffe recalled his most embarrassing role as the one in the $9.5B Harry Potter franchise. Apparently, for the actor, the role of a schoolboy in uniform was a little too much. Revealing how he felt quite embarrassed about playing the role of a schoolgoer, which earned him $95.6M, Radcliffe shocked devoted fans of Harry Potter.
“I think honestly, when I was on Harry Potter and dressed as a schoolboy, it didn’t feel like the coolest thing in the world at the time. It’s been, honestly, later that I’ve looked back and gone, ‘That was incredibly cool,’ and I do feel that now, for sure.”
Although Radcliffe’s response was quite shocking for his fans and audiences alike, his idea of embarrassment is understandable considering his age, while filming the movies. Being just 12 years old during the first film, and growing up on set, it’s comprehensible that he considered the costumes over his potential fame as a pop culture icon.
The Harry Potter Franchise Catapulted Daniel Radcliffe’s Fame
The Harry Potter franchise indeed turned Daniel Radcliffe into a global sensation. Catapulting his fame overnight, the young actor earned international fame following his appearance as the lead character of Harry Potter. And thankfully, although Radcliffe believed it was embarrassing to dress like a schoolboy, he didn’t let that embarrassment get in his way.
Thereafter, Daniel Radcliffe’s career exploded after appearing in 2001’s Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. With the initial success of JK Rowling’s novels, it was quite obvious for the movies to turn into a classic. But a lot of credit goes to the phenomenal cast, who turned the books into a cinematic spectacle.
Later on, after reprising his lead role across eight movies, ending with 2011’s Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Daniel Radcliffe returned for HBO Max’s Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts. Sharing stories with fans, from behind the set, alongside Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Tom Felton, and more, Radcliffe seemingly marked the end of his career with the Harry Potter franchise.
