‘IT’ Director, Andy Muschietti to Helm ‘The Flash’

Its seems like only yesterday (5 years ago actually) that DC released their mega movie slate during a shareholder meeting. At that time we only ever knew about Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice and the DC universe beyond that was a mystery. Though a number of the slate’s films came to pass (Suicide Squad (2016), Wonder Woman (2017), Justice League (2017), Aquaman (2018), and Shazam (2019), a couple of films flipped through the cracks into production hell!

A Hard Time

One such film… The Flash (staring Ezra Miller) was supposed to hit theaters in 2018 but never made it through preproduction. Unfortunately, production for the film has been extremely difficult for Warner Brothers. Rick Famuyiwa was set to direct the movie, then he stepped away from the project and Game Night director’s John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein took over, but once again, they also left the movie due to creative differences with the studio and Miller.

Earlier this year it was reported that Miller was working on his own script for Flashpoint, alongside Grant Morrison. The studio turned down Miller’s script in May, but new information states that they are still interested in Miller as the scarlet speedster, contrary to many reports stating that Miller was out of the role.

New Life

According to the Hollywood reporter, ‘IT’ director Andy Muschietti is in talks to direct The Flash movie, with Bumblebee (2018) and Birds Of Prey (2020) screenwriter Christina Hodson managing the script. Warner Bros. must have faith in Hodson’s writing abilities as this will be her second movie for the DC Extended Universe. The Flash traditionally hasn’t been too dark a character, DC has had success in hiring people in horror background for their movies. James Wan and David Sandberg successfully directed Aquaman (2018) and Shazam (2019) respectively and both have deep roots in the horror genre.

Do you think Andy Muschietti is the right fit for The Flash?
